After try it in VMware WS, I finally install it on a PC . I start to get use to it. I try Hyper-V, but no change from the version of 2008r2; no sound, no resolution that fit my monitor, so I remove the role and Install VMware WS 8, it seems to work well. I use 2 monitors, and since the icon of the taskbar duplicate in the extended monitor, I can run the desktop on it and play with metro apps in the other one. It's very cool. I use a 40gb SSD to cache my OS drive, Intel RST work well.

That, and it keeps nagging you to use your live ID. The weather app won't let me switch the temps to display in Celsius. If there is a way its well hidden like the Windows Shutdown option. :( I bet Microsoft does brag about how many times its downloaded. There will be little to no mention of the big drop in user base in a week or two though. ;)

Everybody has their own opinion but I am reformed by Windows 8 CP - my view was no not ever.... now I will not go back to Windows 7. thought I would hate Metro but I don't, I thought that it will be very difficult to change, it hasn't. As the old saying goes ADAPT OR DIE... clearly adapting is good. I will also get a tablet as soon as Windows 8 is released later this year.

@alphanumeric - do yourself a favour get yourself a live id it will be worth it. And all my files are kept on a separate drive and I have set my locations appropriately.

For single user pc put this "netplwiz" in a run window, set up for pw not required and the puter logs in at boot...done!

Oh Yeh...If you are using Windows 8 without logging into a Live ID you are missing at least half of the power of this new OS.

Just a suggestion.

For those of us who want a Start Menu-sort of-on the desktop…
The Quick Launch still works in Window 8
Make a new tool bar with this:
%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
If you follow that link after the bar is created it is much easier to organize (create folders, arrange short cuts, etc.) the bar in the folder. You can, in effect, create a Start Menu without the orb.
For those critics of this hint…you do not want to know what I think.

Geeks, have you noticed that if you use a Live account to log in to Windows 8 and then log in to any other Windows 8 computer using the same Live account, your desktop background, taskbar settings etc. are automatically transferred?

Oh bloody h***, I'm explaining it very badly ;). This is what I mean: I installed Win8 Wednesday to one of my laptops. Set up the background, moved taskbar vertically left as I always do it and so on. Today I installed Win8 to another rig, a desktop, using the same Live account as initial main user.

I was quite surprised to see the desktop background being not Windows 8 default one but my background from the first installed laptop. Also the taskbar appeared left as I had set it on the laptop.

Wanted to test this, so I now installed Win8 to a VirtualBox vm and it is true, got the same personal desktop and taskbar settings.

This is easy to rectify. When you have the app displaying, press :orb: + C to open the Charms bar. Click on Settings and then Settings again. Click to select Fahrenheit (default) or Celsius. Changes take place immediately.

After using Windows 8 CP for a few days its looking good. All my hardware works and all but one software I have installed so far works also. CDBurnerXP can't see my CD/DVD drive. Windows and ImgBurn burn to it OK. Finally got the Metro Start setup like I like it but its still kinda ugly. Its seams faster then Windows 7. Still getting all my programs loaded and during some organizing but looks like a keeper.

I got that sorted thanks. Now I have to figure out why it freezes every time on a cold boot. It just locks up on the Beta Fish juggling balls screen? If I press the reset button windows loads normally. Also a reboot for updates etc works fine, its just from a cold start.
