I have yet to see what it added?

On the page I linked earlier August 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 look at "improvements in this update". The "issues that this update fixes" category is actually the update package fixes for the whole package of which kb2975719 is part of. It's confusing the way they present it. kb2975719 adds improvements while other updates in the package having their individual pages are system fixes.

Anywho, the "Settings changes for Update and Recovery" is that it adds update history to the Modern/Metro side instead of opening the update history on the desktop side. I'm assuming the touchpad improvements are added to the Modern/Metro as well. Not sure, for I don't have a touchpad to know. The rest are general overall system additions.

The Windows Update settings in Update and Recovery I see now, now that I looked for them that is. I wouldn't have know they were added unless you told me though. That's not a menu I frequent.
My laptop has a touchpad but I don't see the options mentioned where they say they should be. It already has or had most if not all of those options anyway in the ASUS Smart Gesture Utility.
I guess my point is or was, that I didn't notice any changes while using my laptop the way I always do. There wasn't anything that jumped out at me as obviously new.

I wrote a post on this with screenshots, but heck if I can find it. :(

Yes, not a frequent thing we do to know. I usually open Windows Update on the desktop side for I have a tile for it.

Perhaps the touchpad addition is for if one has a generic MS driver for it? The OEM driver program would override it? I dunno.

All in all I think they'll be moving more items over to the Modern/Metro side a little at a time. We can probably expect to see more or all of it in 9.

I usually right click the Start Button or go right to control panel for most things. Now that I've used Windows 8 for a while I'm starting to remember where the Metro Only settings are. Can't say as I mind having some settings in two places, but if they start moving things around it will be a PITA.

another change found

It appears that 1 of the changes resulting from this is
Hibernation is re-applied, via powers settings >> batterty>CriticalAction.

Note it does not show up as a shutdown option tho???

Although the desktop will remain and perhaps limited to certain editions such as Pro and/or Enterprise, I think they will pursue the Modern/Metro to the extent that all system settings (Control Panel) and even File Explorer will be moved there. File Explorer will be much like the OneDrive Store app. The Desktop app/portal will only remain to open and run Win32 programs. Maybe a Start Menu added, but that's about it.

I now read this:
!Microsoft is recommending that EVERYBODY do this regardless of whether you have a current problem or not. There is a strong possibility that ANYBODY could experience the problem and be unable to boot windows at any time with these updates installed, or have display issues. With the increased use on websites of dynamic fonts that are loaded as and when needed to display on a website, that do not use the default installed fonts, the problems can affect anybody and cause an IE crash on almost any siteOpen the Programs and Features item in Control Panel, and then click View installed updates. Is it just that simple to remove the 3 listed updates that Microsoft is recommending? Or do I have to do all those other steps of deleting the font file, and registries?

Between the issues that occurred from upgrading from 8 to 8.1 with drivers, and now this problem it's almost comical now.

I went ahead and uninstalled the 791 and 719 update, just as a precautionary. I checked for updates again after a reboot, there were none.

I've also uninstalled KB2982791 and KB2975719 on my laptop and desktop. I didn't see KB2970228 or KB2975331 listed on either PC. I'll have to check my wife's laptop and my other desktop PC to see what got installed on those. I know the optional update didn't but I'm not sure about the others. They were updates right around the time Microsoft started pulling some of the updates. I had no issues before or after but why temp fate I guess.

After I uninstalled the 4 updates known causing so much headache to majority, I think mine has too got off :)

The laptop is getting charged again as usual, power led has started changing from white to amber on charging & the laptop is getting charged - tried both system off & on!

I have tried to reproduce the situations that caused the problem previously when the led was always white & lap didn't charge at all, but now to my surprise nothing of an issue has arise till now - its been 12 hours..

Any ideas why charging were blocked previously?

I have not done any change at all after the update was installed up to today when the 4 updates where uninstalled.

Its really a big relief...

I've decided to live on the edge and experiment with keeping the updates installed having a pryor restore point saved and mirror made if need be. Might be crazy I know, but all has been well since last Tuesday. :)

I'm relieved that you solved your charging problem, but I'm baffled as to how a windows update could cause it in the first place. That's a new one on me.

I think the Update fiasco that happened to me would be one of the worst kind, - battery doesn't charge anyway whatsoever - goes on draining, power led is always white indicating full charge, laptop works on ac alone plugged with no battery, no error message like 'plugged in, not charging', did all the standard troubleshooting of battery, ac adapter & board failures as much as I can ....still no change : was struggling with single digit battery % & then I immediately did uninstall of the four updates - kABOOOM - its charging!

Before this Aug updates, I had made Disc and System Image by AOMEI, Windows utility , created a restore point - thanks to the precious suggestions from this forum reminding me always of an impending doom may occur when Updates go crazy.

But, still as alphanumeric told, how can Windows OS interfere in charging process??

No idea for me...!

Only thing I see as an even remote possibility is if one of the updates somehow glitched the ACPI software. That would definitely be a new one on me also.
