Thanks for the tip! Only it's not that the image size is different but the icon inside the image is smaller.

It's similar:
You scale the layer in the image and it's fixed. :)
You get the needed empty space around the icon (layer).

Hope someone will give you a link with the mods if this is too hard.

Hopachi you were right!! Joga send me a PM and explained what he did.

There's probably an easier way to do it than what I did (I'm not that great with image editors); I used The GIMP but you could do it in photoshop or probably anything else:

Open the original icon. Use the color picker to extract the background color, and make a new 512x512 image, filled with that color. Reduce the original icon's size by 66% (from 512 pixels to 338 pixels), and copy/paste that into the other 512x512 image.

The icon stays the same size (512x512), but the white picture is now a smaller proportion of it, so the OblyTile text will fit. There's probably an easier way to do it but that was my method. In Obly Tile I just used the new 512x512 icon for both the "Tile Image" and "Tile Small Image" - it'll automatically resize it for you.

I shared it above for if someone also likes to know!

Took me half a day to customize it, finally. :D

Which program you use to customize start screen?

OblyTile, Decor8 (for the custom background picture), Photoshop and a lot of patience. I had to "cheat" on photoshop to get the picture and icons like that.
I improved it again since I last posted these screenshots. I'm starting to love Modern UI, you can really customize it and it's only the beginning of Win 8 (hated the UI at first, took me a month to switch from Classic Shell to it).

That's great news!

GIMP is a great program for this kind of things.

The easiest way I know, with the layer:

-open your image in GIMP, let's say it's 256x256
oldsize.png

-go to: layer -> scale layer
scale-layer.png
to resize 50% smaller (half size)

-the result: image is the same size just layer is smaller and the rest is transparent
newsize.png

The great thing is that it's automatically centered, just export.:)

Great work indeed.

Thanks guys. :)
I changed around some icons again to make the style more homogeneous, but I'm pretty much done now.

Todays Start Screen brought to you by the free Windows 8 Start Screen Customizer & OblyTile.

I used the free Windows 8 Start Screen Customizer to select the picture and set Tile opacity & used OblyTile to create the individual tiles with a black background so they show transparency.
