Solved Audio service not running

No. SMART works at hardware level. It doesn't matter what you put on or installed on the drive. You need to get anything off it that you don't want to lose immediately, then replace it.

^^^^^^

That means get anything you want off the drive by copying to another location, then throw the drive in the trash. Alternatively, you can keep using it and lose important data when it fails completely.

HDD failing has nothing to do with optical drive.

It could last until a minute from now or a long time. Either way, there is huge risk of failing at any moment from this point on.

You can post a new screenshot of the device manager if you wish.

You can also try to open an elevated (Admin) command prompt. Copy/paste this command then press enter:

net start audiosrv

--------

If that doesn't work, try this from the following link -

1. Open cmd.exe with Administrator rights
2. Type in:
"secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose"
3. Restart your computer when the process completes

Easy fix

I don't know if this problem has been solved already in the previous posts, but just in case here is what I did:

I right clicked the bottom of the screen, clicked device manager, clicked 'sound, audio and game controllers', right clicked 'cirrus logic high definition audio' and updated the audio driver software. I then restarted the computer as prompted and the annoying red cross was gone and the audio is now working fine.

Hope that helps
