I removed the antivirus in safe mode. I installed the chipset from this link http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...&DownloadType=
I tried putting in a DVD to see if it pops up then. I still dont find my DVD drive.

I would make sure that C:\Windows\System32\drivers\n360 folder has been deleted. If not, delete it then reboot.

    The same for: C:\program files\common files\symantec shared\

Other than that, I'm out of ideas unfortunately. I looked over everything again and there is nothing new to say.

Two things I would do if it were mine would be to install the drive in another machine and install newest flash update to it. Install latest bios update for the motherboard as well. And if that doesn't fix it, then clean install Windows from scratch, instead of the upgrade.

    Best of luck.

    I found this to try:

    1. Run Command Prompt as an Administrator. Type cmd in Windows 8 Metro UI and press cltr+shift+enter

    2. Type following and say enter

    reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

    3. Reboot the system

    4. Verify if the problem has been resolved.

Is the drive shown in the bios settings or is it missing?

Then no, reinstalling Windows would be pointless. I'd check the data cable to motherboard and/or replace it.

Also make sure the power connector is inserted well. You can tell if power is the issue or not by simply pressing the eject button and seeing if it reacts or not.

Set Optimized Defaults in the bios, too, then save. Manually enable the drive in the bios settings if needed, then save.

The data cable is inside or outside the CPU? And the dvd drive opens wen i press the eject button.
And also in the boot screen this was shown:
The DVD drive is listed as Atapi DVD A DH16A in the bios screen. When i clicked on enter, it showed:

    Smart Support : Not supported
    Capacity : 0MB
    Transfer Mode : UDMA5
Does this mean the drive is listed?

Yes, all is well physically and power-wise. No need to worry about anything like that any more.

You can take a screenshot of the Device Manager in Windows 8 and attach here.

Also, type msinfo32 in the start menu then press Enter. File | save on the opened screen. Right click the saved file and choose Send To>>>Compressed (Zip) folder. Then also attach the zip made to here.
