Take a look in Control Panel (icons view) -> User Accounts, to see if your account shows as an Administrator like below.

That would be why then. You're account is not an administrator type account.

You must be signed in to an administrator account to be able to do the tutorial.

    You could try OPTION TWO.

If that doesn't work, then you'll need to either refresh, reset, or reinstall Windows.

I follow these instructions and get the following error:

    NET USER
    [username [password : *] [options]] [/DOMAIN]
    username {password : *} /ADD [options] [DOMAIN]
    username [/DELETE] [/DOMAIN]
    username [/TIMES: {times : ALL}]
    username [/ACTIVE: [YES : NO}]

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Hello MsNusser, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Usually that means you typed the command incorrectly. See if copying and pasting using Option One may work better.

    Thanks

Thank you so much! That was totally it. I was looking at another screen shot in other instructions that had spaces. When I typed it right it worked. I feel stupid.

You're most welcome. Don't worry about it though. We all do the same.

    Hi Shawn,
Was reading the tutorial and think this sentence needs a tweak:
administrator user - Is an unelevated administrator account that is created by default during the installation of Windows 7, or is already setup or you on a OEM (ex: Dell) computer. An administrator account has complete access to the computer, and can make any desired changes. To help make the computer more secure, this administrator account type will be prompted by UAC by default to give confirmation before allowed to make any changes that require elevated administrator rights. Such as those that affect the system, other users, or when running anything elevated (Run as Administrator) since running elevated will allow it to have access to the entire computer.

Probably should change that to 8 and 8.1. Surprised no one had noticed before.
