Windows RT: Failure?

Last I saw, OSX could not run iOS apps, although they do have their own store.. it just contains normal desktop apps.

Same here, I think they have some kind of emulator to run them, but i never try or look at them, aside, peoples can see from the first look that IOS is not OSX. but it's hard to know ( for regular peoples) the difference from Windows 8 and Windows 8 rt from the start page

Mac OSX: Full OS that can run desktop software including legacy software but also runs Apps from the Store.
Mac IOS: Runs Apps from the Store.

I didn't say IOS Apps, I said Apps. The Windows store also has some desktop apps so the concept between both platforms is the same.

ROBr, I read again and again your post, from what you say , MAc OSX was the equivalent to Windows 8 and the RT the equivalent of IOS, this is simply no the case. OSX can't run Metro Apps, and OSX don't have a double face ( Metro Start Page, Desktop) , this is a big difference

You are over complicating what I wrote, I was merely making a comparison that what Windows 8 and RT can or cannot run is no different than OSX and IOS. Just because RT can also run Office on the desktop doesn't change the fact that a user can only install Apps from the store, just like IOS.

R0Br can you make an effort to at least make some research , Windows 8 RT don't have Desktop

lol like if I have not seen this crapy version of Desktop before ...... I was meaning a real desktop, where you can do real thing, this thing don't even have a real control panel. If I mention it, it's because I don't want someone read your post and think the RT come with a full desktop

Windows RT does have a Desktop but I think they should of called it something different.

Widows RT Desktop has IE10, File Explorer and Office 2013. From what I have seen that is it.

LOL....I never said "real" desktop, actually clearly said a desktop to run Office but can only install Apps as in Metro Apps.

Actually Microsoft should of left the desktop OS alone. Made Windows RT just for tablets. Microsoft could of made Windows 8 for the desktop but left the metro part out. I don't have a problem with Windows 8 on my PC. I can use it just fine. I know what the difference is between the two are.

The average user will and does get confused. Some will buy the RT thinking they can run all the same software they have on their desktop. A coworker was going to buy the Surface but once I explained what Windows RT was, he said $500 for that, HELL NO.

I feel people should not bash Windows 8. By all means post what you don't like about it. Don't just make posts that say Windows 8 sucks.

For 500 dollars, I'd buy an RT tablet just for Office. I could simply use a remote desktop connection to my home puter for other needs if they arise.

But preferably, I'd throw 8-900 dollars for a Surface Pro.

Me thinks the sweet spot is regular Windows 8 Pro on a Clover Trail device. Now that Windows RT has been out a couple week, my reaction is yawn! My Samsung slate is too high end to be a real portable tablet w/ poor battery life. That is why Clover Trail devices interest me, good battery life w/ real legacy desktop apps. I might be interested in the Surface Pro once it is released. For me Windows 8 itself is the icing on the cake and not Surface.

@Area,

Some people get upset if you don't affirm their personal choices.

It is a sign of insecurity.

As this is about RT - do they have the refresh/reset thing on those machines?

Has anybody here actually bought one?

I live near a couple MS retail stores in the flesh. And so far I've only heard of a friend of a friend w/ a Surface tablet. There is a guy at a local restaurant I see a couple days a week w/ an Asus Transformer Android Tablet. We've been comparing notes on tablets for months now. He has a coworker who bought the Surface the first weekend it was released. That is the only Surface purchase I've heard of locally (Orange County CA). I played w/ an Asus Vivo RT device at the MS Store and was impressed but not enough to spring for it...

I don't read review , I try ...I'm not a BB window shopper me, I'm a regular customer of the same cellphone store since 1998 , so I can barrow a demo for a day and try it for real.
