Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

Last week, for the first time since a long time, I've experienced that sleep issue (nothing with powercfg /requests). It's bizarre and it seemed to be related to Chrome. Once I've closed Chrome, my PC went to sleep.... I'm totally clueless about that, it never happened before. I know that Chrome had background process, maybe it was one of them the culprit. I deactivated "let Chrome run in background" when you close the navigator. I'm curious: what navigator do you use guys?

By navigator I assume that means browser. I use chrome and I've been using it before they added the background processes and I've always had the sleep issues.

It wasn't the task preventing the PC from sleeping because I am still having the same issue with sleep eventually stopping to work.

My next attempt is I have created a scheduled task to sleep the PC when it is idle for a specific amount of time. I disabled sleep in power options because that just isn't working reliably.

So far that has been working fine.

Is the theory that the way the task counts idle would be different than the way sleep counts it?

The task is triggered when the pc is idle and I think idle count would be the same in power options. It is a simple task to create The task will launch the sleep command.

I am waiting to see if the pc will continue to go to sleep. There is no way I will be able to find out why the pc will eventually stop sleeping and I am not interested in disabling the MS account. I find it useful.

Actually the W9 preview will be out very soon and live in the spring. Don't hold your breath that it will provide a sustainable fix to the sleep problems.

@ jpsoni And I'll guarantee that an outward mail problem is not an MS or Harvey Norman problem. Your SMTP (outward mail server) likely needs fixing. Someone will help you with this in the right forum.

Lots of updates for Win8.1 this week. I saw a handful of changes regarding sleep and hibernate, but nothing which looked like it would necessarily affect the insomnia issue. But maybe? I don't have much hope though... As my sister would say, "I'm not going to hold my hand on my fanny." Don't ask. I don't know. ;)

Be careful. One of those optional updates requires you to first manually uninstall a bad update from the last batch of updates. Microsoft has been sending out bad updates again.

Too late! I haven't seen any problems though...

Edit:
But then I didn't install the updates until late Wed night, either.
