Tablet buying

ray8, you really need to step back and read what you write. you rail against people as the luvvies. and yet it's you that's constantly derailing multiple threads and turning every thread into an anti-Win8 thread. that's the common element I see whenever I see you joining a thread. "oh, ray8 is here to try to tell people all the problems with windows 8 again."

sheesh. even in a thread that was supposed to be about machines was mutated into a discussion on Windows 8.

Why would anyone want to start a thread about devices in general, if it didn't relate to using Windows 8 on such a device? This is afterall a Windows 8 forum, not: Tablet PC Forums, Discussion and Support.

Ray, now you are getting ridiculous. I guess you have not been around long enough on the forums - else you would know that we have always discussed matters of general interest - on the Vista forum and on the Windows 7 forum. There has never been an objection to do so.

The Tablet and Touch section is about: Support for Windows 8 tablet and touch devices.

The Chillout Room is about: Off topic chat

To that end, my interpretation was that the question related to a tablet with an Atom processor being able to run Windows 8 effectively. My very first response was to give an example of a tablet that ran an Atom processor and could run Windows 8 perfectly. A quite innocent statement. That was then followed by several vitriolic posts about the crappiness of the Gigabyte tablet and Atom processors - talk about going off-track and then the pot calling kettle black.

I am not arguing about what followed the initial post. I have, however, reservations about this statement you made.
Why would anyone want to start a thread about devices in general, if it didn't relate to using Windows 8 on such a device?
After about 20.000 posts on these forums here I have seen that happen a lot of times and nobody took exception. If the mods will have problems of what is being posted, they will let you know.

I'm not a mind reader, so I can only interpret the intent of a post from the words contained within.

Looking at the original post:

I was used to the android Cortex A9 processor but i wanted to know if the Intel Atom Z2670 processors are very efficient. Or are there any tablets with a better speed and good camera quality under $600. with a lightweigh design

Is there anything wrong with interpreting that to mean: 'Will an Atom processor (in this case a Z2670) run Windows 8 without issues and is there one with better features?' I gave an example of a tablet with an older Atom processor and plenty of features that runs Windows 8 quite well, inferring that newer Atom processors should do so as well.

In fact, I was being very positive about Windows 8 being able to run on an less powerful system and do so very well, but the usual culprits took that as Windows bashing. There is an instinctive, knee jerk, reaction, by some, that whenever I mention anything about Windows 8, that it's immediately interpreted as bashing or hate speech.

ray8, just let it go. you don't have to convert everything into a battle to be won.

you were hurt that your Gigabyte tablet was criticized. every device has its pros and cons. but you felt offended that your device was slighted. so you dragged in a bunch of strange arguments. you brought in the Surface when no one was talking Surface. you then converted the entire conversation into the merits of Windows 8 yet again. and now rather than letting it go, you go on about how all of this talk about Windows 8 hardware devices was off-topic.

just let it go. The OP can get an Android tablet if that's what fits his needs. someone asks a question for help on buying a Windows tablet. people offer points/counter points. person makes decision. you don't need to bring in all your baggage or get offended if people don't agree with your recommendations.

No battle and not hurt, but I note that it was you that started the dispute about what the tablet could or could not achieve.

I was merely pointing out that what many consider a less powerful device, be it the Gigabyte or anything similar, can quite adequately run Windows 8. Isn't that one of the major points that Microsoft has been making, that Windows 8 can run on lower powered devices? Yet you just push that everyone should get the latest and greatest.

Not everyone can afford the latest and greatest, so why not fairly acknowledge that less expensive devices will quite happily run Windows 8, rather than putting people off completely. But then, you're basing your views on technical specifications and not personal experience.

And if you're so virtuous, why don't you practice what you preach and be silent, rather than going on about what I've said and thus inevitably giving me cause to issue another rebuttal.

The matter has been changed to about the windows 8 interface. Though the topic is about windows Tablets under $600 with a processor faster than the intel atom Z2670. If there are any.*But if there are no windows 8 tablets faster than the intel atom Z2670 processor in windows 8 tablets under $600 ,then I will stick to and compare to an Ipad 4. Which will make my final decision based on money wise.

this really depends on what you will be comparing it to.
If it is the WinRT to Ipad4, that is a fair comparison.
If you are trying to compare it to Win8 Pro, there is no contest, and no way to compare it. It's crackers and sharks.

there is no contest, all you have to do is look at the prices of the iPads.... then realize what you are not getting with an Ipad, that you DO Get with a Win8 Pro Tablet.

iPad with Retina display - Apple Store (U.S.)
iPad - Compare iPad Models - Apple Store (U.S.)

The ipad, really is a rip off by comparison, even to the WinRT in my opinion.

In other words, if you are only looking for the WinRT, then that's great and I encourage anyone to look at the differences between ipad and winrt., but if you are looking for Win8 Pro, you should save your money and work towards that.

The OS choice is relevant to what you will be doing with it. Anda gain, you can't compare any Ipad to Windows 8 Pro on a tablet. Crackers and Sharks.

That's what I've been trying to say. If you want a tablet that can run any Windows program, and want Windows 8, then you can find many tablets that were designed for Windows 7 that run Windows 8 and associated programs quite well, for almost half the price.

That is, if you are happy with something that is competent, but not necessarily the most high powered device around. That usually means people that want to use programs like Office etc while on the move, but are not interested in the latest intensive gaming programs.

To make it clear for my cluelessness.

Thank you for telling me the intel atom is great. The reason why I did the Ipad 4 for a comparison was for its portability and coreA6x processor with Retina display. But most of the choice was for the app selection particular: RACING GAMES.I picked a windows 8 tablet over a rt because if an rt tablet can run it good then an intel atom can run it better Intel is faster than Arm cpu wise.I just feared as tho the stores selection on apps. I fear to know if there are any good racing games. Or would I have to download them of the internet? My tablet choice is the Samsung Ativ Smart Pc 500t

I like the Samsung ATIV a lot. The screen is great. When it's not docked, it feels good as a tablet. When it is docked, it acts just like a laptop (folds and closes like a regular laptop). The keyboard is good. It comes with a pen.

Ideally, if you wanted a tablet for some amounts of gaming like that, one that has an AMD APU (which there aren't many unfortunately) would be FAR superior to the Atom in that respect.

Not an unexpected statement from our #1 Windows 8 fan. While I don't have anything from Apple, their devices are solid and some are not badly priced (Apple TV, Apple AirPort Express both come to mind).

330 dollars for an 8 inch tablet when every other tablet in that space is a good 100 dollars less at least? Or a 500 dollar ipod touch, or a 900 dollar ipad with 128 gigs of storage and data connectivity? Seriously right now? I don't dispute their build quality, but that's WAY too high.

And I've owned apple products before, won't make that mistake twice.
