:cry:I am desparate for help, My Lenovo Z580 Ideapad pre installed with windows 8 was working fine, I updated to windows 8.1 a few days ago and tonight my laptop shut down. When I tried to turn it back on a blue screen came up with the following on the screen.
Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired
The Boot Configuration Data File is missing some required information.
File: \BCD
Error code: 0xc0000034

You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation
media (like a disc or usb device), contact your system administrator or pc manufacturer.

Press ESC fpr UEFI Fireware settings
I need urgent help, I do not know how to fix this, I need an idiots guide, I did not back anything up and I have lots of personal photos and documents on that laptop. Please help Thank you

I've read another post about re-booting with another windows 8 repair back up disc. Is there a beginners guide on how to do this? Is there any way I can save all my documents & photos. I would take my laptop to be repaired but i'm scared incase I loose everything. Any further help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again

Yes, that can be done. Do you have one available? Even someone else's Win 8 installation disc can be used to access the recovery/repair functions. If/when you get one or the other, post back and someone will help you.

Good luck.

Hi,
  1. If you don't have the recovery disk. Please download from my dropbox:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73124583/Recovery.rar
  2. Unzip/Unrar it to a USB Stick
  3. From Boot Menu or Set your BIOS to boot from it and follow the screen to get to the Command Prompt.
  4. Follow the steps from the thread I posted above.

Good Luck !!!

Thank you, how exactly do I run the recovery without me wiping my documents and photos off my laptop, I need an idiots guide. I've downloaded the the rar file, I just need advice on what i'm meant to do next. I managed to borrow a windows 8 installation disc, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Booting from the recovery disk will not wipe anything in your PC. Since you cannot boot to Windows so booting from the recovery will provide you a way to trouble shoot and fix any errors that prevent a normal boot up.

Just to make sure, you have Windows 8.1 X64 ? if so, use this download that I create for Windows 8.1:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73124583/recovery8.1.rar
instead of what I have in step 1 above.

Once you boot up from the recovery disk, click on:
US->Trouble Shoot->Advanced Options->Command Prompt
Then use the procedure in post #3 above.

Thank you, so I unzip it to a USB Stick, do I put usb stick in then turn on laptop? Sorry but i'm not very technical. Thanks again

Sorry to sound thick, but how do I get into the BIOS, I'm not great with computers. Thanks again.

I've just got into the settings via the blue screen I went to App menu 1. setup there is
Information Configuration Security Boot Exit
on the exit settings it says "load default setting" would I be able to use this to start my laptop up and would I loose my documents on my laptop? Thanks again.

I'm using my Toshiba windows 7 laptop as my Lenovo windows 8.1 is the one causing the problems.

I've got into the BIOS, what do I have to change so that the usb is set to be the first boot device?
Thanks again

Looks like Top Gun may be having his dinner, so I'll answer for him . . .

Do you see something that says "Boot Order" or something real similar? If you can find the boot order, follow your user manual and activate your USB Stick as the first boot device.
