Well I've been having weird issues with these last two beta updates, which results in CCC not working or even showing up in the notification area. I just created a post here on it - CCC not working (Windows 8.1) - Rage3D Discussion Area

Its just weird as I've never had any major issues like this before

I had that happen too, with the May beta drivers. Ended up just having to uninstall and reinstall to get CCC back.

Yeah I just completely uninstalled the old beta drivers, then installed the new ones and all it good now. This is weird because the first time this happened (previous beta drivers), a simple uninstall didn't work; I had to do some registry string removals.

Anyway all is good now.

Thanks.

That usually happens with those version number changes. We usually see that reported all the time over at rage3d.com. Sometimes it can be fixed with a complete uninstall of the old and reinstall with the new; other times we people just ignore it till the next update.

I'll probably give them a try later one. I'll do a complete uninstall of the old ones before installing the new ones as I had CCC issues just doing an straight upgrade - http://www.eightforums.com/graphic-...raphics-driver-windows-8-a-19.html#post395973

From the release notes:

Starting with AMD Catalyst™ 14.6 Beta, AMD will no longer support Windows 8.0 (and the WDDM 1.2 driver)

Think these drivers might be bad. My secondary monitor has glitched up pretty badly twice since installing them, and when I tried to use my main monitor only, it started glitching too. Gonna go back to the 14.6 beta drivers.

I don't have any problem with using my external 27" Samsung hooked to my laptop with these or any other driver so far. This 14.7 doesn't seem to be any different than 14.6 RC was.

All I'm happy about at this point is I'm at least able to install the drives directly from AMD now, where before I was only able to use the old OEM driver from HP which is still dtd: 2011, So for that fact alone I'm happy. Every driver since 14.4 has installed and worked fine. I was about to can this Radeon system for a Gforce system, but now I'm OK with this one.

The ones who usually have issues with newly released GPU drivers are those with multi-GPU or monitor setups. Key word being usually, but not always. I've never really had any major issues with GPU drivers myself but I've always ran s single card with a single monitor.

nice, u just cleared my doubt !! :)

i'm using 14.4 WHQL still, better wait for the official release ... i don't like betas ...

Yeah but this is per AMD

  • Starting with AMD Catalyst 14.6 Beta, AMD will no longer support Windows 8.0 (and the WDDM 1.2 driver)
  • Windows 8.0 users should upgrade (for free) to Windows 8.1 to take advantage of the new features found in the AMD Catalyst 14.7 RC driver
  • AMD Catalyst 14.4 will remain available for users who wish to remain on Windows 8
    • A future AMD Catalyst release will allow for the WDDM 1.1 (Windows 7 driver) to be installed under Windows 8.0 for those users unable to upgrade to Windows 8.1

So unless you don't upgrade to W8.1.(1) and stay on W8 (and no more updates) 14.4 will be fine.

There are several that work, I use Start Menu X Start Menu X

IObit has one that looks like the old W7 IObit Start Menu 8 for Windows 8 Free download, Bring Windows 8 Start Menu back

Start Menu reviver is a bit different, but still good, for those that like the metro apps too, and even has touch capability
Start Menu Reviver

(this is kinda off topic for this thread, but just fyi)
