You will need one key for your Windows 7 install.
    &

You will need one more key of Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 for your Windows 8 upgrade install.

I used the upgrade for a clean install on boot partition that had a previous version of Windows installed. Meanwhile my Windows 7 partition with all those programs is there if I need it.

Okay it is pretty much clear to me now. The only thing that I hate is that, I have already paid for my OEM serial key for windows 7 when I recently bought a laptop and now I will have to pay an extra 15$ for getting windows 8. I feel like being ripped off and that is why I asked if we could use both.

You mean, one partition of yours has windows 7 and the other partition has got windows 8 on it which you installed using the upgrade offer. Am I right?

That is correct. A Windows 7 system was installed in that partition.

    Yes, you can multiboot.

If you use the upgrade offer, you should give up one of your keys from a previous version windows.

If you have lots of keys, it hardly matters.

If you only have the pre installed oem key - you shouldn't really continue to use that.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if millions of people do, though.

Well Brink, the admin and a few other members just told me that using both win 7 and 8 after the upgrade offer is not possible.

You can't use the same Win 7 license for both partitions. If the second partition is based on a separate license it works just fine and would appear to be legal.

    Hello Sam,

How do you feel that you are getting ripped off? Now if the OEM store bought computer manufacturer told you that you would get a "free" upgrade to Windows 8 if you purchase the computer now, then that's something you'll need to take up with them since $15 is not exactly a free upgrade. Double check the exact wording they used about this offer.

    A Windows 8 Pro upgrade download = $39.99
    A Windows 8 Pro upgrade DVD = $69.99
A Windows 8 Pro system builder (full) retail copy = around $100

The $14.99 special for an upgrade "if you bought a Windows 7 computer" seems like a great deal for only having to agree not to keep Windows 7 installed anymore while you have Windows 8 installed.

    Windows 8 EULA

    What about upgrading the software?

The software covered by this agreement is an upgrade to your existing operating system software, so the upgrade replaces the original software that you are upgrading. You do not retain any rights to the original software after you have upgraded and you may not continue to use it or transfer it in any way. This agreement governs your rights to use the upgrade software and replaces the agreement for the software from which you upgraded. After you complete your upgrade, additional software will be required to playback or record certain types of media, including DVDs.

Hi, I had planned on upgrading one laptop to Win8 using the time-limited $40 offer, but now I'm instead selling that laptop. Are there any time limits to when the $40 upgrade has to be installed? For if not, I would buy it now anyway and install it a bit later on another machine. Thanks.
