How to Turn "Make everything on your screen bigger" On or Off in Windows 8 and 8.1

    information   Information
This will show you how to turn "Make everything on your screen bigger" on or off to make everything on all modern UI (metro) screens (ex: Start screen, apps, PC settings, Charms bar, app Switch List bar) appear larger in only your user account in Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1.

This can be handy if things on your Metro screens are to small to read or tap on.

This does not affect the size of anything on or running on the desktop except the Touch Keyboard.

Shawn, do you have an explanation:

Booted my desktop today, W8 CP. It goes to Metro GUI as usual, showing normal size tiles in 5 rows. I go to get a cup of coffee, come back, and MEtro is showing these huge tiles in 2 rows. Check the settings, suddenly this Make everything on your screen bigger is on.

Short: when booted, the Make everything on your screen bigger setting is off, showing normal tiles in 5 rows. A few minutes later, without any actions from my side (not touched the mouse or keyboard), this setting is ON and tiles huge.

    Hello Kari,

That is odd. I'm not sure why it would just decide to turn itself on like that. Do you have any type of all-in-one tweaking type program installed that may be changing it after a delay at startup?

You might consider switching to the newer W8 RP to see if it behaves better with it.

    I never use any tweakers.

It is really strange. Twice now: I boot, Metro tiles OK in 5 rows, in a minute or two huge tiles in 2 rows.

When I just find some time I'm installing RP.

It doesn't work on my Acer W510 Tablet with Windows 8.1, in setting, change PC settings, PC and devices, Display. Under Display, there is more options (change the size of app, text, and others larger), however, the options default/larger was grayed out.

My resolution is 1366 x 768, and it says is lower than 1280 x 900. Is it the reason why it greyed out? I really want to make the fonts in metro and metro apps bigger, is there any regedit I can enable the default/larger options????

    Thanks for helping.

Hello kongwong, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It appears that you display doesn't support this feature.

Have you already tried OPTION THREE?

I'm afraid there's not much you can do for this option if the display doesn't support it.
