Touch and Pen Displays - Configure in Windows

How to Configure Pen and Touch Displays in Windows 7 and Windows 8

information   Information
If you have two monitors and one is a touchscreen, the touch input signal can get mixed up. For example, touching one monitor will make the cursor move on the other monitor.

This tutorial will show you how to configure your pen and touch displays to identify which screen is the correct one for pen and touch in Windows 7 and Windows 8.

You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to do the steps in this tutorial.

Here's How:

1. Open the Control Panel (icons view), and click/tap on the Tablet PC Settings icon.

2. Click/tap on the Setup button in the Display tab under Configure. (see screenshot below)
Configure_Pen_and_Touch_Displays-1.png

3. If prompted by UAC, then click/tap on Yes.

4. Do step 5 or 6 below for what you want to do. (see screenshot below)
Configure_Pen_and_Touch_Displays-2.png

5. To ID Screen for Pen Input
A) Click/tap on Pen input. (see screenshot below step 4)
B) Tap the screen with your tablet or stylus pen that you want to set as the Tablet PC screen, and go to step 7 below. (see screenshot below)
Set_Pen_to_Tablet_PC_Screen.jpg

6. To ID Screen for Touch Input
A) Click/tap on Touch input. (see screenshot below step 4)
B) Touch the screen with your finger that you want to identify as the touchscreen, and go to step 7 below. (see screenshot below)
ID_Touchscreen.jpg

7. When finished, click/tap on OK. (see screenshot below step 3)

That's it,
Shawn

Hi Brink,
I have a Genius pen/tablet (G-Pen F610) which was working fine on my dual display when I was on Windows 7. However, since on Windows 8.1, my pen only goes halfway on the right monitor (which is the second display). So I basically have 1.5 monitors mapped out to my tablet. I'm really not sure how to fix this... the drivers that came with it are set to dual monitors...
Any help please?

Double check to see if both displays are set to extended and screen resolutions set to their recommended sizes.

Does the second monitor that the tablet is connected to support a stylus pen?

If not, then that's the issue. You could set the displays "Duplicate these displays" to see it mirrored on both displays, but the pen will still only work on the tablet.

They are identical monitors: Asus PA 248Q.

What do you suggest I try next in light of this knowledge?

You might see if completely removing and re-adding the affected monitor may toggle it to work properly again.

Before I remove/readd the affacted monitor, I should mention that it is using HDMI, while the main one uses DisplayPort. (not that it should matter cause things were find on Win 7.)
Im also using the latest drivers, confirmed by the Genius tech support.
But heres the STRANGE thing...
If I launch Pen/Pad options which Im not sure if its Windows or Genius software, but as long as its open, my pen works across both monitors. Seems to me that perhaps some sort of service is not enabled at startup. But what could that be? Is that a possiblity?

Is the above a Windows 8.1 dialog box or a Genius software box?

That would be from the Genius drivers.

I suppose that you could add the pen/pad options in your Startup folder to have it automatically run at startup for you.

Well heres the thing... its already in the tray at Startup.... but its only when its launched fully with that intereface that it "rectifies" the issue...

Do you still think something can be added to the startup?

Double check in Task Manager to see what process is running for it when running fully to see if adding it to the Startup folder may sort it.

A process called "Control Panel Betteryless Application" appears the Apps section of the Processes when I launch it. Not sure how to add it to the Startup column though but i'll check your guide.

In my case after Displays: I dont see 1|2. Multiple Monitors.
I only see 1. PA248 and if I scroll down, I also can choose 2.PA248.
But no 1|2. Multiple Monitors as per your example.

My Startup folder is currently empty.

You'll only see "1|2. Multiple Monitors" if you have your displays set to "Duplicate these displays" in the screen resolution settings.

In Task Manager, right click on "Control Panel Betteryless Application" and click on "Go to details". This will take you to the Details tab with it's process highlighted. See if adding this process as a shortcut in your Startup folder will help by having it automatically run when you sign in to your user account.

OK, after I clicked "Go to Details", i did not know how to add it as a shorcut to the Startup folder so here is what I tried: right-click to Open File Location. Right-click the file and selected "Copy". Go back to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp and right-cilck "Paste Shortcut" and I got a Windows prompt saying "Windows can'r create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?"

????

Go ahead and let it create a shortcut on your desktop, then you could just move the shortcut from the desktop into your Startup folder. :)

OK - update. What you suggested worked - however, i do start my Windows with the Genius screen appearing. THe only difference is that if I close the Genius window, this time the settings stick.

Its an OK workaround but I know I wont like seeing that control panel pop up everytime I launch Windows...

Anything else you suggest?

Good news so far.

See if you can do this below to have the shortcut in your Startup folder open minimized.

  • Right click on shortcut, and click on Properties.
  • Click on Shortcut tab.
  • To the right of Run, select Minimized in the drop down menu.
  • Click on OK.

Shawn, once more its an OK workaround. The panel did not open fully, but an active and flashing icon appeared in my task bar. I closed it just as I had closed the fully opening one and it kept working fine.

Is this the best its going to be? One way or another I will have to "X" the panel and close it?

The mysterious thing is that when I close it, it keeps working IF it was included in the Startup.
But if the panel was open because I manually launched the program, then it worked properly only WHILE the app was open.

That's about all I know to do for now as a workaround.

You might also contact Genius to let them know what it's doing with their driver to see if they may be able to release a new driver update that will address this.
