too late - you missed the needed file...

When you use the "Create Installation Media for Windows 8.1" from Microsoft, a "*.TEMP" File is downloaded in background.

This "*.TEMP" File is converted into "WINPAYLOAD.ESD" and right after the "Checking The Download" decryption process it is renamed "WINPAYLOAD.ESD.DECRYPT"

This is the decrypted windows installation package.. "WINPAYLOAD.ESD.DECRYPT" will be found in the following location

"C:\Users\your username\AppData\Local\Temp\yada yada some random alphanumeric\
\MediaCreationToolExpanded\WindowsInstallationMediaCreationTool\Download Folder"

Note: To view the AppData folder, you must first go into control panel, folder options, view tab, and select show hidden files, folders, and drives

You must copy the "WINPAYLOAD.ESD.DECRYPT" as soon as you see the tool finishes "checking the download", to your desktop, as this file will be deleted during the media tools media creation process

the tool deleted the file - as you did not catch and copy the file in time..

In the directory but i don't "download"

find and open that Download folder - the needed file will be created in there..

you should be able to browse to that download folder -

leave that window open and then run the tool

I have blue window asking What Kind of Installation File do you want to create...Have i gone to far. My folder path shows a folder called WindowsInstalltionCreationTool of which there is nothing in it yet. I am in MediaCreationToolExpanded..in is MediaCreationTool.exe.

Is that the file I run?

you can choose ISO again - we do not need that iso - we need the payload that creates that iso..

Have you found the Download folder? Do you have the contents inside that download folder visiable?

If yes just watch the contants inside that download folder

Once you see the file name change to - winpayload.esd.decrypt - copy that file to your desktop, before the tool finishes, because the tool deletes that file.

I just ed the tool - when the tool starts to download the folder is created.. but you should be able to open

C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\what ever\MediaCreationToolExpanded

then find the download folder after the tool starts downloading

Yes that is the file - it will change the name - but yes we need that file when it is named

winpayload.esd.decrypt

Great does the DECRYPT showup now i am seeing just WinPayload.esd
