There should also be a setting for encryption, you want to go with AES rather than TKIP.

Does your connection show as connected in the Windows 8 Network and Sharing Center?

It does not. I can disconnect and reconnect and it tries to identify the network for about 2 minutes then fails; public even changes to private and goes back to public. It shows the router name and allows me to try and create a homegroup and that also fails.

Edit: The "Access Type" is "Internet".

It sounds like something left over from Comodo is blocking this connection from being seen by Windows.

Have you tried using the comodo removal tool, the one I posted may not work but it may help to look around for another one.

Ok, strange problem here probably caused by previous A/V installation or something along those lines.

Try running the file below, unzip and run the file as admin, your machine will reboot itself. Let me know if anything changes.

There could also be some file corruption from what you are saying so try running the sfc/scannow command and let me know what it says.

As I suspected, this problem has nothing to do with networking and lots to do with missing or corrupted files, maybe even the registry is messed up also but who knows. The ipreset won't be able to fix all that.

At this point it may be best to refresh the system. I'm not sure if this system has ever worked correctly or not but reinstalling is another option.

 ok  if you insist.

I have had some blue screens and 2 forced sfc scans; I may do a reset if things do come out right from the refresh. This is not my primary OS on this machine, but I sure would like to get it working so I can keep up with MS.

I installed this over a Preview version, has this been an ongoing problem?

Bizarre problem for sure, it's certainly not normal or repeatable on other systems.

What happens if you connect directly to the modem?

Did you run the IPReset file I posted earlier?

Have you tried using a different driver?

I've done everything you asked. Since refresh saves settings and reloads them, it is possible that there is a bad setting in the registry. Can I do a full install on Win8 which I downloaded? If so, I will format that partition and reinstall from scratch.

Yes it's acting more like the download or the installation had a problem, I would reinstall the Op system if it was me, you can burn the original .iso if you still have it. I'm sure you have your activation number?

It might even help to download the .iso again and burn it using ImgBurn.

A clean install is much preferred over an upgrade installation from Windows 7.

What I have is the $39.99 version that is called an "upgrade" that I downloaded and yes I do have the activation number.

EDIT: OOPS, I just happen to think - Win8 took control of the MBR; so how do I move that to another partition?

Refresh your PC—Attempts to solve system problems by replacing system files without affecting user files (similar to what a repair install does WRT to system files at least under earlier Win versions). User files still should be backed up. Installed programs will have to be reinstalled except those from the Windows Store. A list of uninstalled programs is provided. Settings will be maintained (edited).

In case anyone else finds this, a reset is different than a refresh, looks like the reset is nearly like reinstalling the Op system. I'm glad the reset worked, I was confused between the reset and refresh options. This was really just a corrupted Operating system problem rather than a networking problem. :geek:
