SATA Driver - Load in Windows 8 Setup

  1. #40

    AMAZING!

Thanks to all of you awesome people, I finally have clean Windows 8 up and running.

theog, I re-created my bootable W8 USB drive per your instructions (I had actually already made one using a FAT32 formatted drive but you clearly know better than I do!)

And Hopachi, you were completely right. I used 7-Zip (which happens to also be my archive manager of choice) and found my appropriate .inf file. W8 setup installed the driver and I was able to mess with my SSD.

You're probably all saying "DUH, of course it worked!!!" With help from you guys and various threads on this forum, I can finally rest easy and explore W8 bloat-free

EDIT: Oh, and sorry for hijacking this thread!

    Hello,

i have a question about Pre-Install SATA Driver:

should i install "Intel(R) 8 Series/C220 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller" or "Intel(R) 8 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller" ?

Windows say the right one is "Intel(R) 8 Series/C220 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller", it's the right one?

another one, what is the advantage of install the SATA driver in Windows installation against install after Windows is ready to use (installing from desktop going in Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers > update driver and select the folder) ?

    Thanks

Hello FATAL1TY, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You would only need to install the SATA/Raid driver during installation if prompted to when setup doesn't recognize your hard drive. Otherwise, it would be best to install the drivers after the installation has finished.

My hybrid drive shows up in the bios but not in the Windows 8.1 installer.
    I'm assuming I just need drivers,but I don't know which one(s).
    I've tried drivers from MSI's site,but they didn't work.
I've been trying to figure this out for about 3 days now and I'm running out of ideas.

    Hello,
Like some of us from previous posts, you have the Intel chipset. I hope Z97 is still covered by the one I posted below.

    Try this one:
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...?DwnldID=22676
it's the SATA and SATA-RAID version...

I guess it should work fine with the above one.
NOTE: get the zip version and extract it to a folder, you'll see the drivers directly.

For older machines you might try this:
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...?DwnldID=17882
    the older SATA versions...

    Good luck
