Hi

very new here and only been using windows for 4 days which is windows 8.1 and sorry if this question has already been asked!

my laptop randomly shuts down yesterday 3rd december and does some random update, once completed I.E11 has been deleted off desktop and I'm only left with windows internet explorer tile which i hate using, the desktop version was similar to what i was using before. Is there any way of getting this back??

I have tried right clicking on the windows tile and pinning to desktop but on clicking on IE on the desktop it just flashes on and off instantly, I'm not sure thats even the same IE I was using before the updated deletion.

any ideas how to get it back??

i forgot to mention after the update it asked me what version do i want to use, firefox, internet explorer etc etc i refused all of them because i was happy with internet explorer, it failed to mention it had deleted it.

thanks in advance

Ok 2 things. 1: Use Chrome or Firefox (they are much faster and have better functionality). And 2: You still have it. The shortcut was deleted. To get it back: First press start and R together. There should be a popup that says "Run". Next type "c:\program files\internet explorer" with the quotes. Then find iexplore.exe. Right click it and click "create shortcut". Next you should see a popup that says "Windows can't create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead" Click Yes. Now you have internet explorer on your desktop again.

Go to Apps screen (Start Screen > Ctrl/Tab) and look under I for Iexplore (not Internet Explorer). Right click and choose "Pin to Taskbar".

Thanks very much i will try that fix and post how i get on, thanks again for your time.

Try open file location via my way should open it in File Explorer. Right click the.exe there. What do you get?

There may be something wrong with your context menu.

Thanks i did try that but on clicking on the icon i.e just flashes on and off instantly.

there is no iexplore either! Only internet explorer

iexplore is the desktop version. Internet Explorer is the Modern version. I have both on my Apps screen. I should think you have also.

Arronb, follow my fix. I also posted pictures of the 3rd and 2nd to last

Ok i get the shortcut on my desktop which i have managed before so your fix works great but one major problem when i click on the icon to open it, it just flashes on and off so it doesn't open
