My Windows Search service won't start. I searched for the error message and was informed it might be a permissions issue with the C:\ProgramData\ directory. Windows Search Service/Indexing - Access Denied? - Windows 7 Help Forums

So I tried to see the file properties of this directory to see if they are correct, and I can't do it. I right-click, select Properties, and nothing. I try alt-Enter and nothing. I have tried System Restore to the oldest restore point, but it didn't help. Anyone know how I can see the file properties to check the permissions?

Hi,

1. First of all try to Restore the Windows Search service. This can resolve your issue.

2. There are multiple ways you can try to Start a service.

3. Can you make changes to other services ? For eg. If you don't use Bitlocker, You can try to disable it.

4. If you want to check / change permissions, you have to proceed to ''C:\Windows\System32\SearchIndexer.exe''
( Proceed only if / When you are sure! )

( PURELY OPTIONAL : You need not running Windows Search service while using FileLocator Lite / Agent Ransack Free )

Thanks. ...
