Wynona, aren't there generic keys and copies circulating that can be used to get you installed to a point that you must then change to your own valid key? I thought MS was ok with that?
Yes, there are generic keys that will let you install 8.1 and then use your 8.0 key to activate.
As I said,
I hope I'm wrong, but I believe that we're forbidden to make copies and distribute them
even without the key. What we need is for someone who has the licensing terms for Technet or MSDN to read the thing and quote it to us so that we don't make any errors in judgment.
I remember that Newegg had copies of Windows 8 or 8.1 listed for $14.95 without a key, but those disappeared almost before they were discovered. My thought is that Microsoft made them take 'em off the market. I believe lots of folks would have paid $14.95 just to be able to install a clean copy of Windows 8/8.1.
I don't see a thing wrong with making a copy of my Technet DVD and giving it to a friend; however, before I do it, I have to know that I won't get into hot water for it.
And that's the bottom line . . . I think we should be allowed, but I'm not sure we are.
