Can't install it! I just tried to install it on my desktop and it went thru the download and install process, then backed it out. Since it's optional, I think I'll just skip installing it and "hide" it in my updates.
Sorry, but glad to read this, John.
Total disaster for me. I have never had the problems with updates that many users seem to have, This time - " rolling back, unable to finish install". Restarted, offered the updates again - same story.
Not sure where to go from here but I think I will put back one of my older images and retry.

P.S. OK. Problem solved. It was a question of trying to mix cumulative updates with regular updates. I should have left the cumulative update alone (or vice versa - left the separate ones alone)
I loaded an earlier image and tried again, but only with the update notification, not the premature ones posted.

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.
One of the advantages noticed is that the pages load quickly( without the blank screen) :D

Installed fine here too... NB: I always use the separately downloaded MSU file (for these large ones, anyway)...

Don't see anything that really grabs me - tested the double-tap 'n drag... works fine - side-swipe still brings up the charms *sigh* (I do, however, blame the synaptics driver for that, as it doesn't appear in a VM.)

After this update, lost charging ability of AC adapter to my lap.

Uuug, that let me scared!

I had already backed up disc image before downloading the update, have to try it soon or do a restore.

Note: now when i shut down lap totally & plug in lap with battery to AC supply, power led shows as it's charging.

But, I have not found any problem with power led even while system was on - the battery is not charging that's all, with no errors in the battery icon in system tray nor any abnormal changes in power led.

It's just that- everything showing up is normal but the lap is not getting charged.

Hi all, 1st time poster but long time viewer of the site.:)

I have been having problems with this update since it's release yesterday. All of 6 of my desktops/ laptops have the exact same issue when attempting to install the update:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070002: Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB2975719).

After carrying out various troubleshooting steps (including downloading the KB directly from Microsoft rather than Windows Update), I was initially of the opinion that it was a problem with the KB itself however I created a VM with Windows 8.1 and have since discovered that carrying out a clean Installation of Windows 8.1 and then installing both previously released and newly released updates, the KB2975719 update will install without any problems.

All of my PC's are configured identically with the only changes being the removal of all the pre-installed metro apps (no use for these) alongside the removal of the following Windows features:

- Media Features/ Windows Media Player
- Print and Document Services/ Internet Printing Client & Windows Fax and Scan
- Windows location Provider
- Work Folders Client
- XPS Services
- XPS Viewer

Aside from these changes, Windows 8.1 remains unchanged.

On a side note, the PC's that are having the problem only had Windows 8.1 installed 3 days ago with the only additional software being Office 2013 and VMware Workstation (at this time).

All other updates from yesterdays and previous releases install fine so I am a bit puzzled as to what exactly could be missing to prevent this update from installing. Microsoft state that as a pre-req update 2919355 must also be installed - which it is. There must be further pre-req's that Microsoft have missed (in my opinion) that is causing this update to fail.

I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions in resolving this. Microsoft Support levels 1 and 2 techs have not had any luck yet. :)

R20TNR, with "removal of the following Windows features" I suppose it's done with "turn windows features on or off". Got the exact same stuff as you disabled (and all tile-related bloatware has been uninstalled \ deleted from hd), KB2975719 was offered as optional, installed it anyway and it installed fine. So I'd 'guess' that the problem may not be related to the disabling of those programs\apps

As always here, update went perfect on my pc's, w 7 & 8 (btw not yet spotted anything new or different), and Classic Shell still works, so all is fine :O) Good job by MS.

That KB addresses some of the stuff you have "removed" (how did you do that), Media Features/ Windows Media Player is one I'm sure of. You should check at MS what that update does. I found out long time ago that less system is modified, less chance of something going wrong with updates.
August 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2

Thanks for all the advise guys. When CountMike mentioned the media features I had hoped that would solve it but unfortunately not. It is a bit of a relief though knowing that other members (4wd) do have a similar setup with the update working for them.

4wd you are correct in thinking I removed the additional features using the "turn windows features on or off".

I have tried every troubleshooting step I know possible but as yet had now luck.

I am waiting for someone higher up within Microsoft Support to contact me at the minute so will report back if a solution has been found.

2 x Win 8.1 64-bit machines to update

I have 1 x Laptop, plus 1 x Desktop that I need to update with the latest MS update releases.

That means I will need to download & update on each machine. Both are Win8.1 64-bit units, and they have both had all previous updates installed.

Given that my Internet connection is very slow, and "out of bundle" data usage is VERY expensive here in South Africa, is there a way I can download the update once, save it to a USB drive, and use that to update both machines?

If the above is possible, can someone point me to where on the MS site I can download the latest update?

Once the update file is on the USB drive, can folk here guide me on how to install the update file on each machine? e.g. can I just copy the file to each machine, and then run the files?

I had 16 updates and one optional. I tried to update twice. Once with all17 and once without optional. What a nightmare. Windows would not load and I could not use system restore. Said my drive was locked. I had to open a command prompt in recovery mode and execute the following.
Bootrec /fixMBR
bootrec /fixBoot
bootrec /rebuildBCD
Then I was able to perform a system restore. I guess I won't be able to install this update. Between this and the blurry text problem I think I am about ready to go back to win7.
