When I ran my disk clean up for the system, it reflected "Windows update cleanup" at 106 mb.
I feel sure it is left overs from my recent upgrade to win 8. To be sure though, is it ok to "erase" in the
System clean up?

Hello walex,

"Windows Update Cleanup" deletes or compresses the old copies of installed Windows Updates that have newer versions of them installed.

They are safe to delete.

Hope this helps, :)

Hello zszisek, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Sometimes you may need to restart your computer. I have also noticed that sometimes you may need to run Disk Cleanup twice to remove all of them.

Hi , I did restart and repeat many times and stll the same, sorry

Do you know if it's older than 7 days? Disk Cleanup will not remove some items until they are at least 7 days old.

In that case, I'm not sure why Disk Cleanup is not removing them. :(

It shouldn't take that long at all. Maybe a few minutes at most.

:think:Brink, you say earlier on that clean up does not remove certain files until 7 days have passed. Is Windows update one of them.I did a factory restore after getting my laptop back from repair (it got a new hdd) and I was running disc clean up and it seemed to be stuck at Windows Update files for ages, until I gave up and cancelled it after 40 minutes.I thought there was something wrong with my laptop until I read what you had said,so if Windows Update is one of them,I can stop worrying.

Yes, but it still shouldn't take that long either way. Was there any HDD activity during this?

Well, it sounds like it was working, but I've never had it take very long to finished though.

Windows system update

Hello and excuse me for interrupting. I have over 300 MB in the same place and am asking if the box should be ticked and run more than once.
I do not know which boxes in Win 8 should be ticked and how often the system cleanup should be run.
The terms are confusing as there is a disc cleanup and a clean up system files.
I have been running the first regularly and the latter just this once with only the updates box checked.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you
Peter
