Microsoft Office 2013 Professional Plus 64-bit, activated over the phone. I'm already one step ahead of most people I know ;D

Don't delude yourself.

Many people (excluding me) on this forum are probably way ahead of you.

Gone Back to office 2010

I tried Office 2013 on both Windows 8 and Windows 7.

In both cases the font rendering was shockingly blurry. I tried the tips re hardware acceleration etc in the Options menu but there was no improvement.

I have gone back to Office 2010 - at least the fonts are clear.

I just installed Office 2013 on my wife's laptop and because Office 2010 was already installed but Outlook isn't used for email on the laptop, Office 2013 installed without removing Office 2012. On my wife's main PC, the Office 2013 replaced the Office 2010 installation and replaced Outlook and kept all of her settings and data intact. Pretty clean install. I think my wife will like the 2013 version because it's "cleaner" looking and less complicated, as least to the user...

Yes, the "employee home use" deal simply cannot be neat! You can download the Office suite (Pro version) for $9.95 and if you add a few $, you'll get the DVD. I don't order the DVD, as I download the app, then install it and store the app and the accompanying license and key in the same folder on the server... Makes it much easier when the time comes to reinstall...

I have not experienced the font rendering issues at all and I'm running Office 2013 on two desktop and two laptops PC's that are all running Win7. I had Office 2013 on my PC when I was running Win8 and no problems of any kind... I wonder if it's your video driver?

Then I have to check the Intranet at work next monday! At my work, an Insurance Company, we also have the "employee home use" program. Have been waiting for Office 2013!!!

Right now I'm using Office 2010 Pro. Was only €15 + €10 for the DVD.

Can you download the x64 version of Office 2013? In The Netherlands you have to get the backup DVD for the x64 version. The download is usually x86 only.

You do know that from 2007 and onwards Office supports multicore processors? In other words, Office 2003 only uses 1 core.

At my work we use multicore processors with Office 2003. The performance of Excel is worth crying for. An old Pentium 4 2.4 GHZ pc works better with Office 2003 then a new double or quadcore pc. On the latter Office 2003 is running like it was running on a single core 800 MHZ processor.

Doesn't matter to me in the slightest. I just don't make use of features complex enough to even notice. I use Word, Outlook and to a lesser extent Excel but even there I don't use Excel for anything of large size. I'm just not a performance junkie when it comes to that stuff. As for my development tools I use VS 2008. My largest project takes 2 or 3 seconds to build. These machines are far above my needs performance-wise at this point.

The highest-performance software I run is my video processing stuff which I run on my i7 desktop (Dell XPS). My laptop is an i5 with 8GB of main and 1TB storage on which I do all my photography and software development. I simply do not run into performance issues with anything I'm using.

I've got an i7 3770 but MS Word 2003 and Outlook 2003 run as fast as I need. If I were using Excel with a lot of calculations it would probably be different.

Yeah, having access to the Home Use Program (HUP) is awesome. You basically need to work for a company who has an enterprise agreement with Microsoft with Software Assurance enabled and you can then offer that benefit. Technically if you cease employment with the company, you are intended to stop using the software too...but as far as I know there is no way to ensure that or prevent people from continuing to use it.
