Post your Start Screen!

Hello everyone. New her. I am happy to see other people putting time and effort into setting up the best start screen possible. I was really determined too. Until I replaced/added the old "start menu." I then have absolutely no use for the start screen, so I havent done anything more to it. Here is 2 pictures of mine (that I dont use.)

I also had another layout, with the lies inverted. It was quite nice too.

Well, I love this forum, and Im glad to be here. I have to do a fresh install of Win8 AGAIN...and I'm gonna have to do all the little hacks all over again :'(

Clean. Tiles to the right and transparent.

It would be great to be able to do this on my Windows Phone 8 as well.

Some day..... MS needs this to take all the tile complaints away.

Had to do a clean install of win 8 earlier in the week, and after alot of faffing this is my new silver/chrome/blue start screen and desktop!

This is absolutely the first start screen that is actually decent to look at. Congratulations, it's too bad that this isn't the sort of interface that was provided by MS in the first place.

Ummm.....this basically was provided by Microsoft. It takes user input and third party to deliver what they personally want. I think this is cool, but I wouldn't use it as it reminds me of mac os and such.

exactly - moreover if w8 looked like the screenshots out of the box i would have stuck with xp, to each their own i suppose. as far as the notion that w8's metro gui was inspired by aol, well that's just laughable.

My WIn 8.1 'start screen'. The All Apps screen works well as a start menu in 8.1 (unlike W8).

Just as well, too, coss the Start Screen proper is as buggy as a flophouse mattress.

Make your own tiles , not got a link to hand but "Obly tile" is what you want .The dev is on XDA forums.

Then search DeviantArt for some nice images , or just use a graphics editor to make your faves (If you need a hand PM me and I make you some)

Just so I'm not misunderstanding. Are you saying that the All Apps screen in 8.1 is just as good as the old traditional Start Menu?

If that be true and just an idea > I know you are a power user > Would you think it be better if the All Apps screen appeared instead of the Start Screen? In other words, an option to reverse what is default. If so, would you think that would satisfy most power users?

I think is a general misconception that the Start Screen is the substitute for the traditional Start Menu, when in fact it is the All Apps screen that is. The Start Screen is a personally configurable touch-centric launching screen. That is it's main purpose (but not its sole purpose).

Just as well, too, coss the Start Screen proper is as buggy as a flophouse mattress.

It's not as good yet, but is a step in the right direction, IMO.

You can set 8.1 to go directly to it instead of via the Start Screen (right-click on taskbar>Properties>Navigation), which I find far more useful. It will satisfy many, but not all, I suspect. I quite like it.

As for the bugs, Pin to Start doesn't always work, and some stuff from All Apps won't transfer to the Start Screen. No biggie, I'm using Quick-Launch for te ones that won't pin.

Agree, but it was such a PITA to use it as such in W8 that I doubt many even bothered. 8.1 is much better.
