I hated the Metro Start Screen from when I first saw it.
I went and purchased Start8 so I could boot straight to the Desktop and have a Start Button back.
I've played around with different themes and posted them on this thread but something was still lacking.

Now with my new Jukebox Theme I actually look forward to using the Metro Start Screen as I'm surrounded by images that bring back memories of my teenage years.

Now I can honestly say ... WINDOWS 8 ROCKS

Although I'm a little younger, I remember most of those too. I'm glad to see Hendrix amongst the tiles. I dig the old jukebox tile! Most are touch screen now.

A similar thread.

Before I knew about this thread, I made a similar thread on another site

¡Post your Windows 8 Desktop + start-screen!

and was bullied out by the users of that web-site, I'm glad this is a better web-site
with not just more quality users, but also this thread is a good way of expressing our
love for Windows 8, for some reason there seems to be a lot of people that hate
the start-screen which is something you can easily modify.

I use mine as a giant start menu (not that I wouldn't prefer the 'normal' one, it's supplied by Ivo's great Classic Shell).

For customisation purposes, I use a 'freebie' called 'Windows 8 Start Screen Customiser v1.3.8 beta', which lets me change the background and a few other things. It even lets me 'fade' the tiles so they look more like icons.

So, all I really need to do is change the pic occasionally whenever I get tired of it.The program can be set up to run a slideshow of different pics, but I haven't bothered.

Anyway, here's the latest look, with a pic of the 'desktop' thrown in. Notice most of the Start Screen is swallowed by games? I hope reports that tiles can be made smaller in 'Blue' aren't just rumours.

I hated this Start Screen nonsense with a passion at first, but now am quite used to it. I'm still not into most of the 'apps' though, as you can see, except for Bing and the Weather app, both of which I use regularly. And at least in my example, it's certainly not 'ugly' as some have claimed. It does look downright horrible unless 3rd-party customising programs are used, tho.
