Hi there
coming from an older generation and bought up on "Netiquette" I just cannot understand it when a load of people post queries requesting help and after a few replies the OP just disappears from the scene.
Surely it actually doesn't involve ANY effort -- even on a mobile phone -- just to reply and say "Fixed Thanks" to the solution that worked.
Mind you these days lack of respect for anybody else --especially BOZOS screaming on mobile phones in enclosed places like Underground trains etc seems unfortunately to be the norm.
People ARE willing to help solve problems -- but it would be nice to know also if the proposed solution worked --and even if it didn't then also to have information - and if you DO find out what cured the problem to give the solution (or Link).
If you've taken the trouble to ASK a question it can't be that hard to say Thanks that worked -- or Sorry that was no good.
I think if we continue going down this route where total lack of respect for others becomes routine -- We are going to end up in a HORRIBLE place.
At least where I come from if you see a stranded motorist you always stop and help -- it's just second nature -- due to the terrain and climatic considerations outside the capital. I'd imagine in the remote parts of Australia etc same considerations would apply -- or at least you'd call the emergency services.
Strangely enough on a visit to Central Russia a few years ago believe it or not the local people were magnificent when my car broke down -- they couldn't get the part but an old farmer managed to hobble something up out of a lot of old iron that got me to the next decent sized town / city with international services (around 500 KM away) -- I spent the night drinking a load of Vodka with them and getting totally drunk and was on my way again the following morning -- and I only knew about 3 words of Russian.
Those people were about as far away from "Oligarchs" and Mafia that it was possible to be.
Maybe I'm just becoming a grumpy old man -- but it really doesn't take any trouble just to say thanks -- and people really DO appreciate it when your problem is solved.
I still keep in contact with those Russians --and have even learned a few more words of the Language since.
Cheers
