New Windows 8.1 ISOs with November Rollup (Update 3)

Microsoft has unleashed new ISOs for it's Windows 8.1 operating system for MSDN subscribers, which includes the recent November Rollup Update, also known as Update 3. Much like when Windows 8.1 Update 1 came out, the ISOs include all the latest updates which is handy for those who frequently reinstall and dislike the update process.

This is interesting. I just clicked on the Create Media link here Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help and I get this.

Service Unavailable

HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.

I am hoping that MS is updating the ISOs :p

Jim

Hey Jim,

It's working for me currently. You might give it a try to see if it'll work for you now. :)

Still fails for me. Tried FF and IE on PC and Laptop and all fail.

Jim

UPDATE: It's working now. :dinesh:

6054382 is the latest one on MSDN. Updates never stop, not until support ends for that version anyway. Lately they've been issuing a fix for the fix for the fix. :(

I know. Not complaining, just sharing few facts for my geek fellows. :)
though i agree, 8.1 has been getting lots of updates. Makes you wonder how much polishing this OS needs.

OK got a question: IF W10 ends up a free upgrade for W8/8.1 users, I assume you'd get another ISO, OK, so how would that work if you had to install, would they make the retail key for W8 work as the usual activation key for 10? Would you have to install the W8.1 ISo with the W8 retail key first? Or would they issue you a new activation key for W10? And how would that work? , by sending them your retail key you may have now?.

Just wonderin....

Your guess is as good as mine? I don't think anybody knows the answer to that yet? The new Windows 8.1 download will use 8.0 keys for install and activation, even OEM embedded keys. I'm sure if Microsoft wanted too, they could code 10 to accept those keys too. The key phrase being "if they wanted too". It could end up being a Store upgrade like 8.1 was at first. Lots of rumors around on this subject. Hard to know what's going to happen and when.

So it seems you can only get the Windows 8.1 ISO with the November updates through MSDN? I was a bit shocked to find my ISO download from here - Create installation media for Windows 8.1 doesn't include them

In the process of doing an OS reinstall and see I have a lot more updates to do - including the 8.1.1 update :(

EDIT: Never mind seems I did get the 8.1.1 update and a few others. I just saw the watermark and assumed it was the older ISO.

I'm good.

Yeah I hear that, but it seems its gettin kinda close now and you'd think they would at least give people some advance notice. I mean hell for W8 it was like months before it was released that they let people sign up for that 15 buck deal, remember? I took advantage of that one. They could do something like that now since the last i heard it was what Jan they want to release it?

Well, there are already W10 transformation pks available lolol. for 7 and 8. Which is probably a lot safer for some than going and installing the test OS.

The January release is just the Consumer Preview, not the final release. Then they look at feedback on that and "maybe" tweak it some more. I'd say Fall of 2015 before it gets released as a finished product.

OK, but even that (consumer pre release) would be close enough to have them give some sort of heads up on the upgrade process, and at least let w8.1 users know what to expect.

it would be even better if they said that installing the CPR on a W8.1 machine would than let it update as usual via WU, and register automatically.

OH well............

There is this? Windows 10 Preview: Prepare 7 or 8.1 with official tools

yeah I know about that, have no desire to hose up my W8.1 (1) at the moment. I don't have a problem waiting for the "final" , I only have one laptop I use now as it is.

besides that's a "Pre" release, (like some alpha test version) not a "consumer release" version, (more like a beta) so by time this CR version comes out it should be close enough for MS to give better guidance.

My plan is to clean install the CP on my laptop via an MSDN ISO. If I have to do it though the Windows Store etc, I just won't bother.

OK, sounds like a plan, but in my case I have way too many programs I don't have installers for and would loose a hell of a lot of stuff, I was happy when 8 came out and actually kept ALL programs and settings from 7.

If this CR version is considered stable and at least 97% done I may think about upgrading myself, but than only if I can be sure my W8 pro key will work with any final. That's what I need to find out, not so much the ISO availability. I do want to obtain the ISO and burn me a full install copy, but will first need to know just what key will I need, and can I get a new Pro key from MS if my W8 retail key no longer work.

in other words, if the CR version is done well, and installs "over" my 8.1(1) keeping all my programs in tact, fine, I can always burn a new image for backup and reinstall as I do now so I always have my system recoverable "as it is" now in the working condition with all programs I have. The ISO would be for some rare case clean install, or the usual need to run as a recovery disk to get to the file history image, since I'm sure the w8/8.1 recovery USB would no longer work. So you'd need to be sure you could even install the thing "clean" using what key.

well, this is the stuff that keeps IT types running around the maze lololol........

Hi there

Why don't all you "peeps" who are worried about hosing up your W7 / W8 systems simply try running W10 as a Virtual Machine. You have THREE options at least here all Free.

Install VBOX
Install VMWARE VPLAYER
Install (or switch on) Ms HYPER-V (Windows 8/8.1 Hosts only - not available on W7).

Then if you don't like it simply delete the VM -- nothing damaged and it's a great learning experience about Virtual machines too.

There's plenty of advice in the tutorials about creating and running Virtual machines. - Even quite old hardware will run these successfully.

As far as VMWARE is concerned you can make a copy of your RUNNING PHYSICAL machine which will be converted into a VIRTUAL machine. (Your actual OS won't be touched in any way).

Then when you have say a Virtual W8 running simply upgrade it to W10 (FROM WITHIN THE RUNNING VM - by standard way you would do on a REAL machine) so you don't have to do all your program installs again. !!!!

Here's a link to the VMware converter (it's FREE also). !!!
