Microsoft to Fix Blurry Text Bug in Windows 8.1 RTM – Rumo

Windows 8.1 is expected to reach the RTM development stage sometime this month, while general availability is likely to be announced in the coming weeks.

While details on the RTM version are still vague right now, a new rumor spotted on MDL forums indicates that Microsoft might use this build to roll out some essential improvements, including an eagerly-awaited fix for the infamous blurry text bug spotted in both Windows 8 and 8.1.

ahh! At last a good move. So far they seemed to just ignore it and hope those affected would stop complaining and go away (tons of posts about it on technet etc, and never any real response from MS).

Edit: some numbers, 3 laptops out of 4 affected here (regarding IE10: close to unusable on all 4 due to the font rendering mess).

Is this common to must user, or just a few. Still haven't had this problem. . .knock on wood. . .

M$ says they are listening to customers.
Oh yes, with enough people throwing bricks at them (while others stopping throwing money at them!) over a long enough time period, seems they sloooooowly started thinking (realizing) why, at least in some areas.

Rumour only.
Got Win 8.1 here on a new laptop. Native windows GUI and IE are crisp and clear. Everything else is blurry and headache-inducing, especially Chrome :(

Sorry for all those experiencing this glitch.

Guess I got lucky in not seeing it, or it depends on hardware, the most stable graphics drivers so far here are from Windows update.

But now that I look at the screen more carefully I do notice some differences with the Win7 laptop.

It does seem to have something to do with pixel anti-aliasing, clear-type...

I once had something similar in looks: the screen resolution was 1360x768 instead of 1366x768 (native) and so 6 pixels in the difference made a lot of pixels blurry because they were divided in the width. This is basic compared to the issue in the OP that relates to native resolutions, which should provide crisp clear images already.

This is new that I see, sorry if it's already covered: in my previous post, and noticed with others too, all seems OK if I'm logged in but if I'm logged out I see an extra link to the word drivers that I didn't add.

Is it the forum's normal thing of advertising so that I should not worry about?

I do not see that link logged in or out just on your screen shot.

Same thing happens to me if I am signed out. BTW I am using Chrome Beta when this happens.

EDIT: I think it only happens if you have Windows 8.1 like both of us do.

Why is it that nobody seems willing to post magnified screenshots of these blurry fonts? Seems kind of weird to me.. you'd think people would be anxious to prove their point.

I notice that image is from an early Windows 8 beta. There were no decent video drivers at that stage, and I don't believe hardware acceleration was even in play.

OK here's one taken just now from my laptop. Win 8.1, latest NVidia drivers, GTX 765M, Haswell 4800MQ, HD LED.
IE nice and sharp on left, blurry Chrome & steam dlg on right.

I don't understand what you complain about :P

I see a slight difference, but just a slight one, and I see no real problem with any of the text in the picture.
If I have the bug/had once I probably would never notice
