OK, let us try one more time.

1) Please download: Autoruns for Windows and run as admin

1. Under Explorer Tab: disable all the Shell Extensions that are non Microsoft
2. Under Internet Explorer: Disable all add-ons that are non Microsoft

The above ensures that nothing is interfered with explorer and let's try what I showed in the Video to see if it can create those 2 files.

2) Did you use local account or Microsoft account to log into Windows ? try to switch if it makes any difference.

3) If it does not work, can you create a new account and try to log in ?

4) Below is an attachment that I created the default screen using the video. in addition to the 2 files, explorer also created the cache files and put them in the folder explorer. If you want to try it, take ownership and copy them to the appropriated folders.

I assume that sfc /scannow does not have any more errors, am I correct ?

Thanks for the effort, I login as local user and don't have a Microsoft account..
Sfc scan now still gives errors it cannot fix.

I tried already the trick with the 2 files several times but no luck .
Explorer can start manually only from the elevated DOS box, but that's it.
I seem to be unable to save downed files now as well but I can download via a Laptop and use usb, only not sure if I can instal anything.
I will however it a last try.

EDIT tried some key finders via USB, some work some don't.
All give me the same key, but if i try to reinstall windows it tells me the key is not valid
WTF??? it is an online purchased version and i do have the key, all official, no illegal things.
i formatted anew partition for the install so at least i can keep the data i have but this seems to be a digital void no man has been before. Keep you updated and to anybody trying help, a million thanks for the efforts.

I decided to give up. Pc is now doing factory reset. All the codes I could retrieve are invalid according to the setup................

EDIT back up and running from a fully cleaned pc. Now reinstalling all software (why do i have so much?)
luckily i backed up the failing drive data so i hope i can retreive stuff as emails, email account settings, firefox favorites and more.
Funny, when i try to reinstall all codes found are incoorect, but upon a factory reset windows 8 requires no code at all....

Ok now I have had it completely, just had 3 restarts in a row due to an USB driver issue, this is killing me.............why can it not run smooth, its a clean instal (factory reset) on an empty partition and as I type restart 4 kicked in, can't even do anything after startup.....
Now it tells me the kernel I'd missing or contains errors. 0xc0000221 code, man wtf this is so frustrating

The thing won't boot and I can't even get in anything at all, if I try to boot from the DVD it even tells me these errors so unfortunately I cannot do anything to find a log file

Ok I now managed to get into safe mode with prompt, let's see if I can find a dump file

Kernel security check failure is the latest error I just got. There us a dump file but I cannot do anything with it at this point

And after restart 2 million there I'd padre fault in a non page area followed by yet another restart coloured by again missing ntfs.sys

Did you ever run memory diagnostic ?
or chkdsk c: /f ?

Before the clean instal I did without any errors. Just opened the case, reseated my hdd, rewired them and reseated the ram modules. its repairing disk errors automatically and reboots,..........
And again it had errors

I am sorry but reseating your memory is not the same as diagnosing it. Since you've already done all we can think of and still having problem. The only suggestion I have left is:

1. Use another HDD
2. Run Memory Diagnostic, download: Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool , burn to CD from another PC or Laptop then boot it up. (Windows 8 has Memory Diagnostic tool but it not good at finding errors)

I know you are right but under windows 7I only had trouble once or twice in 3 years, now it seems like nothing but trouble. Memtest I did last time in November 2012 so I doubt if the ram is the issue here. But better to be safe than sorry so I will give it a go later on. Now it offered me to do a restore so its buddy doing that, hoping this will solve it.
The hdd windows is installed is new.

Ok its running again, no idea what was wrong but its fixed. Turned on the auto save function and created a restore point, you never know. Once you go eight, prepare for hate

Good to see, it started normally today. Set auto file backup to 10 minutes just in case. Let's hope it will stay this time...

hi Easy,

Had once the exact same issue, meaning no Metro, no desktop (everything black).

But if you go into task manager you should be able to see explorer and you can activate this. If not your explorer is corrupted.

If yes, maybe you can restore the damaged file.

But Topgun, that is a hell of a solution. If only i new this some 2-3 months ago. Whow.

Shawn, maybe this should get a place in "Tutorials"?

Forgot here,

Topgun, i am not so keen on MEMTEST. When i had hang-ups, computer went to the store and they did not find the problem. Running MEMTEST for 72 or so hours. After a week i got my pc back, same problem.

All i did then was removing one of the two memory sticks and yes the one having problems was found.
