Do you have a link to this Best Removal Tool? The only one by that name I can find is Best Removal Tool and I don't see where it costs money.

My fear is you were suckered into buying snake oil. If this program was free to download and run, then found a whole bunch of stuff that then required you to pay to remove it, it is a scam!!!! And may be malicious too.

I came to the same conclusion - couldn't find anything on the net about it. Plus Barbee paid a years subscription - eek

Best Removal tool sounds a little like ransom/trick ware. tells you, you have thousands of problems and wants money to fix them..but never does.
there are many free programs to do the same thing ,even better

Have you scanned for malware? I suggest you download and install Malwarebytes's Anti-Malware (MBAM). This is free, but IMO, the paid version is worth it.

By the way, all, I took the computer to a computer repair service. they think it is a virus... but I think it's the hard drive. We shall see.

Have you uninstalled the offending program BEST REMOVAL?

Have you looked to see if your programs work in safemode?

If it works in safemode, then there is a program intercepting or interfering with your legitimate program and you need to remove the malware...

Exactly , if you can fix it yourself with the help of buddies on this forum, its really a waste of time and money going behind tech centers - my short experience has taught this

Do all the troubleshooting you could manage to do & as a last open door, give a call to service.

sometimes it best to have hands on tech support ,I believe in this forum 100%, but when the owner and the helpers here are getting no where and it needs to be fixed ,then to the shop it goes , my opinion is this was and is an easy fix ,Simple Reinstall of windows !!!

I hang out at a local computer store ,untrained/self taught computer tech and they always use the words your shops tech used ,"I think it a virus" and they backup and format and reload a lot .but they only charge 45.00cdn

Wait! Traditionally that WAS true - but it ONLY applied to running two "real-time" "in memory" programs at the same time. It has nothing to do with "on-demand" supplemental scanning as was suggested here. But regardless, today, avoiding running two in memory at once no longer applies - especially with MBAM Premium which is designed to work well with other programs.

MBAM Free does not have a real-time component, so it is not an issue at all.

Same here and me either. So I am very worried that some malicious code (malware) has taken over this computer - blocking installation of MBAM before MBAM can set its hooks.

Back to two anti-virus programs - years ago, running two in memory at once often caused conflicts, as each program was wondering what the other was up to. Like two dogs guarding the same bone. But today, at least with the better known programs, they more or less ignore each other. At worse, it is just wasting resources (RAM and CPU cycles), bogging down performance.

But MBAM Premium is different. I use MSE and MBAM Premium on all our W7 systems and WD and MBAM Premium on all our W8 systems - with no problems with conflicts, performance degradation, or malware infections.

also agree you have something nastie on the computer and I think it might be called "best removal" !

Not so easy when you don't have windows to reinstall. Mine came with the computer! I prefer the discs.
