Solved Annoying internet problem

Yeah it has done this since the scan just how you describe, and the only way I can connect again is by restarting the pc (disconnecting the wireless adapter, unplugging the router etc doesn't do anything to help, but restarting the pc fixes it) I'll put the DNS settings into the router, hopefully that'll help. Again appreciate the help :)

Ok if this doesn't help then it's time to remove Avast using the removal tool as it's the most likely culprit at this point. :)

Just an update. It seems to be working a lot better, I've experienced the same problem a couple of times in the last week (a lot less frequent than it was) but now windows can fix the problem itself without me having to reboot the machine, so if it continues like that I'll be happy :) Thanks everyone for your help!

Well there has been countless problems reported with the older version of Avast although I heard that the latest version works with Windows 8.1.

You should definitely remove the current version of Avast "if you haven't done so already" as it is plagued with problems as reported here and on other forums.

In fact with the scan repairs which were required to fix this machine you had about every problem in the book.

You shouldn't be seeing this problem ever if things are working correctly but I'm glad the situation has improved.
