I have read a number of threads on this issue. My HP running windows 8.1 with IDT High Definition Audio CODEC consistently tells me that my headphones are unplugged in both the front and back audio ports of my desktop. I thought getting windows 8.1 on my new desktop would enable me to have audio....

My trouble is the audio output through headphones - background is louder than foreground (especially in music - I often cannot hear the vocals at all; movies however are mostly fine, for reasons unknown to me; but generally, the sound is always different in some way).
This seems to be a pretty common problem. I'm working on my friends computer, because his headphone jack isn't working.
He has an Acer Aspire M, with a third-gen i5, 6GB DDR3, Windows 8 64bit, and a Realtek card.
He had been using headphones in the side jack, and they were working fine, but...
I updated to Windows 8 today, and everything seemed to be going well until I tried playing music through my headphones. They worked fine on my iPhone, but once I plugged them into my laptop, no sound came out.
i had installed windows 8 before had a winload error, so decided to installed it to format it now i have nothing in my hdd but when i try to install win 8, win 8 cant recognize my hdd, the bios does.
help please? i would appreciate it
