    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

There will hopefully be scalable modern apps that you can pin on the desktop to replace the gadget. The gadgets are supposedly a potential security risk.

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

I know chrome changed a while back and now there's a piece that stays resident and in the tray. I'm not sure though if it does this for all configurations. Maybe that has something to do with it?

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

That sounds very promising. I thought people had given up. I wonder how many cases this actually solves since it's probably more than srvnet for some people. Anyhow will the system integrity checker (SFC) end up swapping the 8.1 version back? Is SFC run by the system like during upgrades...

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

I guess if you do need onedrive and you can't sleep without a local account then StandbyHelper may be your only option? Hate to sound like a commercial for StandbyHelper but it just does most of what Windows sleep was intended to do. And with zero effort.

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

Personally, I've faced the fact that StandbyHelper works well enough and seems to survive all updates, maintenance, drivers, etc as you would expect normal software to act. So for me, making Windows sleep work would be classified as an unnecessary quest, a twisted hobby, or probably an...

Devices and Printers Menu takes forever to load

Step 4 makes a lot of sense. I'm going to take a hard look at that. Thanks and glad you solved your situation.

What's the difference any more between a new OS and an update? Microsoft is supposedly trying to do away with major releases. They are trying to push us into subscription and do all enhancements via frequent updates.

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

I don't think so if it's really just an "update". Microsoft blew it royally with W8. They need to get as many as possible onto W10. It's about market share now. They're quickly losing their monopoly.

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

Has there ever been a charge for what Microsoft calls an "update"?
