NO, the MS OEM End-Use licence.

The HP OEM manufacturer Win XP licence is NOT TRANSFERABLE.

The HP OEM licence is only for PC that it came with.

That is not correct. When XP was supported all you needed to do was call XP support and if you have a registered copy and either change processors or replace a dead computer they would give you a new key. I know I did that on the HP I had previous to the old HP I now have. I have 7 computers, 6 XP machines and one Mac Desktop Pro.
I have 3 bought XP OS discs bought at Circuit City = 2 XP pro and one Home Edition. I have 3 systems that have OEM installed and 3 I built and used the XP versions I bought at CC. I have a brand new XP Pro never installed but is a bad disc and I never tried to get it replaced.

I buy all my stuff and it hurts to get pinned against the wall when an OS changes. If I wasn't so used to PC I would have changed to Mac in 2009 when I bought my new Desktop Pro with FCP Studio 2 for a mere $5k. They have made many new OS releases and so far I have not had an issue with anything. I am on my 4th Mac OS and have not had one issue.

Cybor - If u have the installation media for your software there ARE other ways to get a working XP system and then re-install the programs. If the dirty dogs won't sell you one then maybe it's time to go other ways if u know what I mean.

sl2222 I have a working XP system I have 6 really. I need a working Win 8 system with the ability to boot my XP drive and run XP on it when I need to run my XP software. The end of this year I will no longer run my personal XP system online since the updates are ending then. I need to use the software on that system but I bought the Win 8 as a replacement and do not need another computer I need to run XP and Win 8 on one.
Is that what you are referring too?

After thinking for a while your new computer is set for AHCI for the hard drive in the bios but your old box may not have a setting for AHCI in the bios which will prevent you from booting on the new box as the driver is not installed on XP. XP uses the hard drive driver after the splash screen that is when it crashes. If your old box does not have a setting for AHCI or if it is not set for AHCI then set your new box for non AHCI and try a boot to XP. If you get it to boot you need to replace the hard drive driver for your new board and set it back to AHCI. If you can get a XP driver for you new box you may be able to install it on your old box then move the drive to the new box and boot.

labeeman you are correct the old box does not support AHCI and the new one does. I did try booting the drive via usb on the new box after setting the board for IDE but I dont remember if I tried with it internally. I have time I will try it now.

No that will not work on USB it has to be through the sata controller.

labeeman..yo the man! I set it to IDE with my XP drive as the only drive internally and it booted to my password screen but my keyboard and mouse were not working so I could not go any further. I am sure it is drivers for those. Ok now how do I get this all to work. Will I be able to add the Win 8 drive and will it work? You mentioned XP drivers for this motherboard. I have the motherboard drivers which say for Vista, XP, 7+8 is this what you mean. How do I get them on in my old machine?
Wow I knew it could be done.
