Latest CCleaner Version Released

Hi guys,

Anyone..just tell me what all options can be safely done by Ccleaner without worrying about anything. Had heard many have registry problems later on after running it.:(

Default is just fine, you might want to change under options-settings-wipe free space,so that cleaning, will not take more than a couple of seconds.
Registry?Never an issue, but do take a look before, just in case.

Not recommended for SSD, CCleaner will warn you about this.

My primary is SSD, thanks for that :)

Strangely,i dont have wipe MFT option in latest version, just wipe, anyway.
On a Tera drive,I get up to 70,maybe 80 MB back, takes more than 10 hours to complete,I think its worth it,every time followed by a defragment, keeps that three year old drive in top notch condition!

Ten hours for 70-80mb every 2 years, o.k. then :p More power to ya! Yes greyed even if enabling wipe free space do not think un grey it. Again talking about an HDD, but thought said won't really benefit a HDD, guess you meant wipe free space only.

I found this---

This "Slim" version of CCleaner is identical to the standard version but does not offer to install a toolbar. It is usually updated a week or so after the standard version is updated.

From---

CCleaner (Slim) Trusted Freeware download and reviews - SnapFiles.com

Thanks David. I'm not aware of CCleaner ever having offered me a toolbar, and certainly not noticed any additional ones on my system.

But once again today CCleaner offered me an update. When I clicked on it I got a message saying I already have the latest version. Not sure what's going on there

Makes absolute sense,on the other hand,my CC updates have always "wipe" checked.
O.K. we agree on keeping that box unchecked,at least for SSD's,although HDD's wont really benefit of that particular feature.
I usually "wipe MFT" twice a year, and gain up to some amount of MB's of space.

My CCleaner updates automatically have 'Wipe free space' and 'Wipe MFT' checked and I have never changed these. I run CCleaner a few times each week using 'Secure file deletion - Simple Overwrite 1 pass'.

I have a HDD. Am I likely to be causing any problems to the drive by using these settings?

If so, what would you recommend changing and why?

I always uncheck any wipe feature and use it only once or twice a year, and regain lost MB's in that 'free' space, created by writing and erasing data on the drive(s).As agreed, never wipe free space on a SSD.
Used to do complex overwriting, but the truth is,if you dont have any NSA or KGB sensitive data to erase, its just overreacting, one pass is enough. It should cut down few seconds for each cleaning run.
Some say, that cleaning the browsers cache (Cleaner-Applications-Internet cache),slows down the re-loading of images and content pieces of sites.Currently testing as unchecked, nothing really noticeable as for now.
Lazy enough?Check "Options-Advanced-close program after cleaning".Divine!

As agreed on fact that wiping free space on SSD is not recommended with CCleaner. Also using cleaning overwrites with more then pass in Simple, has 1 -7 passes. Raises same question i brought up once on a post here feeling that again more then one pass will not be good idea for a SSD too. Yes you are saying here unless you feel you have sensitive data you do not want to be recovered. I feel and of course makes sense to is it's same as wipe drive to SSD but being done more often by doing too many writes and erases. Basically i keep mine either Normal or Simple (one pass).

Guess i am not hiding anything i am worried about someone from CSI forensics is gonna be looking for. :D

Too bad CCleaner can't clean apps usage history in Windows 8.1, something i noticed, still need to go to task manager under Apps history to do so.

Thanks for this, will change my settings and see how it goes.

I have IE set so it deletes browsing history on exit, so CCleaner generally runs pretty fast anyway. And I don't save many cookies. I can live with waiting a few seconds for sites to load.

And I take laziness a little further: I use CCleaner at the end of the day and also set it to close the machine down after cleaning :).
