The tool uses the winapp2.ini system built into CCleaner to easily add new rules and definitions for programs. The rules were sourced mainly from the Piriform Support Forum, with several sourced from other places around the internet.

Fwiw. I made a clean install of developer and, before doing anything else, ran the latest Ccleaner, with most of the optionals ticked . It might be of comfort to some doubters, that, whilst it cleaned out a pile of entries, it did no apparent harm to the installation. Ditto the regcleaner in Ccleaner.

Has anyone tried CCleaner yet? It works great on Windows XP and 7, and I'm getting ready to download it for the 8 Preview.

The new version of CCleaner offers the option of cleaning up unnecessary cookies. It works fine, and my computer is fine, but I have to re-sign in to all the sites I use, including this one.

Don't use the unnecessary cookies option, and everything else will be fine.

Hi,

Move the cookies you want to keep like the ones from forums you subscribe to, banking stuff etc. to the right hand panel in CCleaner > Options > Cookies and they will no longer be removed.

If you want to recover even more real estate in W8, or W7 for that matter, manually remove all the files in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\*.*

Beware of the Wise freeware packages to clean up the registry and HDDs, they can easily mess up W8 big time. At least make a restore point before letting either loose on your PC.

CCEnhancer has updated to 3.2. However, when used, it delets the winapp2 file.

Do not use 3.2 ccenhancer, it deletes the winapp2 file !!!!!!!!
