Windows Explorer Thumbnails not getting saved

Not matter how many times I let Explorer build the thumbnails, after any reboot or shutdown/power-on the thumbnails get erased and I have to rebuild them again. It happens with all images and videos the same. Any idea why is this happening?

IMO, Windows 8 is definitely cool, but it has some rough edges that should've been ironed out before prime time.

It looks like either this is an isolated issue or people just don't pay any mind to it. :S

exactly, its quite annoying. when you check the thumbnail cache in system clean up it shows only 1 mb. adding to this video thumbnails generating everytime entering the video folder is frustrating

I followed the thread to see if anyone answers, but only now i created an account to answer to this. My system has the same behaviour on Win 8 Enterprise x64. It will recache files every time i access the folder containing pictures and videos.

Is where you are storing your pictures and videos a network location like a NAS share? If YES then your thumbnails won't be cached because network locations are not indexed. If you want the network location to be indexed you need to make the files available offline so that a cached copy is made local which can be indexed. However that defeats the purpose of having files on a NAS share to begin with so it's not really a solution. This has been an issue since Windows 7.

If it is local to the computer then either add the location to a library or check your index options and make sure the location is being indexed.

Neither files in the library nor in the index are free from this issues. Thumbnails are not remembered anywhere, not even in the local drive.
