The thing I hate is how programs install items there you don't want taking up space and not creating desktop shortcut you can pin or drag into an addon toolbar.
It's the start menu. When you install new programs, they add themselves to the start menu. It's worked this way since windows 95. Also, it's the choice of the developer whether or not to add an icon to the desktop. Stuff like steam and firefox still does, bot a lot of other devs choose not to.
Does anyone else look at that start menu and find themselves having a hard time locating things. No custom icons?? WTF?? I found myself staring at it for a good 3-5 seconds often when I was trying to find a certain program. So basically, everything that is a metro program, has an actual icon, and everything that is not is just a box, with the name of the program, and a tiny icon in the bottom corner. For real?

It's like going back to Windows 3.1's Program Manager except it looks much uglier and is less intuitive with its forced full screen navigation.

According to screenshots, the release version should include larger icons and smaller text.

Also, you can customize the icon. Right click the tile--Open file location--Right click the highlighted shortcut--properties--change icon.

    Yep.

It is MIND NUMBING to look at that screen shot.

    It is NOT an improvement!

If you ever go near google, it seems half the world has rtm already.

It might even be worse than RP appearance-wise

Really sucks that the pirates and crackers get their hands on RTM before legitimate enthusiasts and legal users/developers :/ They should have posted it to MSDN and Technet on Aug 1.

But that happens every single time...

True, but some of those running the RTM might not even have the real deal or a clean build. I wouldn't use a leaked copy of an RTM if you paid me (unless you paid me very handsomely). I'll wait until Aug 15, it's not like I am really all that excited about it anyway.

agree, xp and 7 was easy to figure out, i wouldn't install a leaked bad copy of windows 8 though, that would be putting nightmares on top of nightmares

I totally agree, but it's seems like such an easy situation to fix. Ah well...
