In next Windows version I would love to see something other than the "activate windows" for checking forpiracy. As it is now, it is annoying me quite a lot.
Latest example: Last Saturday I flashed a new BIOS incl new Intel ME version onto my mobo. rebooted and then Windows was not activated anymore. It could not activate automatic, so I tried to phone to MS "activating service". After typing the id-numbers I was told, that my ID was not accepted, and it could not be activated!! At saturday there is no way a private can get to talk to a real person. Monday I phoned again to MS and this time I could speak to a real person (I think), and after he looked at it, he asked me a lot of questions about my PC, and what had changed aso. I told him, that I have got a new SSD, a new netcard (onboard is broken), and now this BIOS-update since I installed Windows (clean install), and that's it. Hen sounded as he did not believe me, but he did finally give me new ID-numbers to type, so now my Wondows is activated again. Allthough he was kind to talk to, I don't like the idea, that my system can be grounded so easy.

Please, find another way of tracking legal systems. Please.

Be careful what you ask for, as the next step against piracy could be even more involved and complicated, and maybe even more prone to failure. It's unfortunate that you had activation issues. If you swap a lot of hardware in a short time it can trigger an activation check. I'm not saying that's what you did that's just an example of what can trigger it. I flashed the BIOS on my laptop and had no issues. I also replaced the hard drive with an SSD and upgraded the WIFI card with no issues. They weren't all done at once though. Anyway, I don't see Microsoft relaxing on their activation strategy any time soon.

Do you not have a tile for that? If not, I can link it for you.

The 3 tings was done in a spand of about a month, is that "a short time"? Is there a setting or a program that will show you how close you are to trigger this activation check? Evt which item(s) that is replaced since last activation and/or which item(s) can be switched without trigger activation check?

    Windows 8 Pro with Media Center/Windows 7

Along with my complaints about the Worthlessness of RT, I add the ridiculous removal of DVD burning.

MS adds all this fancy CACK, thinking that people with STOP having a need for burning DVDs with the Native Burner. Future OS? I wanna see a real start menu put back, and DVD burning put back.

Windows 7 was prefect with these features, you could burn DVD and CD, and Media Center was not some 10 dollar or 99 dollar add on option, it was part of the OS.

So they make an RT interface, while removing native DVD playback from WMP. I don't understand why they removed this stuff, it just doesnt make sense.

Licensing would be my guess? That was their excuse for removing Media Center. That or they are just trying to force you to use a Metro Store App to do it. Either way it sucks.

An OS that just works straight out of the box! No nonsense of having to cut and paste from another programs or OS to make it work. I do not want to install external programs to make an OS do what I want it to do!

If I install an OS on my laptop or PC I do not expect it to act as if these machines are tablets, they are not!

I don't know, Microsoft doesn't give out very much info on how Activation works or what triggers it. Their thinking is if you don't know how it works you won't know how to cheat it. I do believe Retail installs monitor a lot more hardware than say a factory OEM install. The Activation server keeps a hardware fingerprint of the PC after first activation. It then periodically compares it to the actual PC. If it see's a big change or enough change over a certain period that it suspects you have installed on another PC, you'll fail activation. Changing out the motherboard will trigger it all on its own because it shows up looking like a different PC. Maybe your BIOS update caused Windows to think you installed on a different PC. You can move a Retail install to another PC but you almost always have to activate by phone when you do it. Microsoft wants confirmation that your copy of Windows is only installed on one PC. Hopefully you don't have any more issues with activation.

Sorry but that's not OS what you wish for, it's complete software system. I, on another hand would like to have a clean small OS with usable GUI and than install software and apps I prefer instead of mediocre ones offered at higher cost by MS. Such an OS would be much cheaper and more streamlined and therefore be a real OS instead of hoge- podge of programs that just offer an excuse for price.
