Ignoring problems won't help solve them. Most users can ignore, but some need this feature to work.

@linw: did you disabled sync in skydrive parameters in PC configuration (modern ui)?

I've tried to run a youtube video embedded in Facebook with Chrome and I got powercfg /requests from Chrome

You should have the same too or else something is wrong.

as soon as I close the window, the requests are gone.

Do you have errors or power troubleshooter things in the system event log?

@TechnoMage - I think we know how to shut them down but, for reasons of our own, we don't want to and don't think we should have to. I have had no sleep problems with win 7 and 8 so don't see why I shouldn't at least see if I can get some sort of answer for 8.1. I'm prepared to invest a bit for that.

In saying that, I know there have been sleep problems for a lot of people going way back.

Yep, I'm in agreement. Right now, my "new" (anyone tired of me saying that?) system sleeps with Windows 8 on it. I need to install 8.1, but not until I have the time to use either Macrium or CloneZilla to make an image. And that may be a few days off.

Although I could get Lady DualBoot to sleep by turning off the Power Service, when I turned it back on and messed with SkyDrive, she says she's not sleepy yet. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I'm not sure I've done everything right, and again, when I get time I'll work on that issue again.

Right now, I'm tied up in legal research and it has to come first.

    I may be retired, but . . .

You can do your image with Windows 8

Search for windows 7 file recovery in control pannel. With win 8.1 it is under file history.

@orbit. Thanks for your reply. That info helped me to dig a bit deeper.

Yes, I have all sync events off on skydrive.

Event Viewer is reporting the sleep events.

'powercfg /requests reports' IE, Adobe Flash Player and Realtek audio when the YT is playing. Also disappears when YT stopped.

So, on the face of it, the power requests are being recorded but they are just ignored. This seems to point to a pretty fundamental error of some sort which maybe answers why this sleep stuff is so damned unreliable. Also odd that the requests are acted on with power manager off!!!

I'm lost, here, but it would be interesting to get an MS tech person to explain this. Maybe there is a rational explanation but my results are certainly weird.

Lin, I think we have about three or four "equivalents" to Microsoft tech persons right here in this thread.

Then again, every little bit will help us get this mess straightened out. So, bring on the techs!

Oops! I went there and File History was turned off. I turned it on and it started to do something to my external Toshiba drive. Now there's a folder labelled File History>Nancy>DesktopA>Configuration>with some catalogs. And File History>Nancy>DesktopA>Data$OF and C, both of which are just packed full of something or other.

Would that be an image? It just seems too easy to be what I need.

There's something I need to ask, and since I've been following this thread for days and days, I'll just ask here.

How in this world did I get the Power User title underneath my name! Although I do know my way around computes, I certainly haven't supplied enough information to make me look that smart! Because I'm not . . . Even those with one little dot underneath their names seem to know more than I do.

Oh, well, I guess I accept it gracefully and try to live up to the label.

Nooooo! Lol If you are using windows 8 (not win 8.1) do this for system image:

    Just disable what you've done!

All these forums have a graduated list of 'titles' you progress through based on the number of posts. Sorry, nothing to do with knowledge or skill!!!!!!
