Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

I just opened a formal complaint with Microsoft on the IPV6 issue. I worded my concern as follows:
"Many are now reporting they have to to disable IPV6, after updating to Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1.1, in order to get their computers to enter the proper sleep state."

    Microsoft's initial response was:
"As of now we have not received any information regarding this IPV6 issue. Can I please have your phone number so I can call you back and gather some more specific details regarding your issue?"

    My response was:
"unfortunately, I do not have this issue myself so I cannot provide the necessary details."

    There response was:
"We have logeed your complaint and we will monitor other reports for a similar issue."

Anyone having an 8.1 or 8.1.1 sleep related issue should report their issue directly to Microsoft and be prepared to work with them because they will most likely want to call you back.

Who is this Vonnie? She seems to have been able to identify most of the issues that some have reported in this 111 page thread and she even provides the workarounds that were suggested here as well. The only difference is she was able to do it on a single page so there is no more need to read through 1,101 posts when looking for a workaround. BTW, all the comments are on the same page as well. However, she does not encourage anyone to report their issue directly to Microsoft or the manufacturer of their hardware and she also assumes it must be a MS issue but she herself makes no mention of reporting any of these issues to MS either. Hopefully, this will be a great time-saver for anyone looking for workarounds because it is much easier to browse a single page than read through 1,101 posts.

I'm afraid that this list of hers is just a "greatest hits" and doesn't cover anywhere near the solutions attempted in this thread. There are compilations in this thread that are far more comprehensive but I don't have the links at my fingertips, possibly some else does if you're interested.

Anyway the point is that for most these fixes seem to provide temporary relief, like the ipv6 did for me for example, only for the problem to eventually return. I think "most" people here would be very skeptical of a miracle patch. It seems that the problem is related to a very complex issue of Windows 8.x versions and updates combined with each users unique hardware and drivers. No one size fits all patch is anticipated.

Nor should be anticipated, for Microsoft has addressed the non-sleep issue with update KB2919394. It is in fact the “one size fits all patch” for the issue.

Good suggestions there, SpringUpdate. I think it wise to link those, especially the MS Answer Techs link.

Sorry, my computer isn't what it was when I had the issue. As I said, it's been in for repair, taken back to factory specs and updated twice (with patches and updates rolled into Windows 8.1 from the Store), with all issues gone. Some have installed the December update and their issues are also gone, while others did the same and still have the issues.

I can tell you about my experience and give my thoughts on why I no longer have the sleep issue, but I no longer have what you'd like to have.

Bottom line is that although my issues are gone that does not mean there's something wrong with those computers (both brand new and quite old) that have the sleep problem.

BTW, I'm pretty sure Microsoft is aware of the problem, since there are a large number of current and past Microsoft MVPs in these forums.

Can you give us a link to "Vonnie"? I don't recall her name in this thread; however, I don't recall a lot of folks who have posted.

Ah, thanks NC; I guess that looked so much like a forum link that I paid it no heed.

I went there and there are four options:

    1. Power Options

    IPv6=TCP/IPv6
    Home Group
    Close all Applications
yup, I referred to them as "greatest hits" since they were some of the most popular attempted fixes but a very small subset of the larger compilations.
