    I saw it. Thanks.

For those who need RealMedia codecs you can try RealAlternative.
    Download Real Alternative 2.02 - FileHippo.com

If it's still gonna crash/freeze the system (let's hope not) then it's the codec and we'll have to wait for updates.

It's definitely the current version Real Player in my case causing problems. As a test, I spent the entire evening yesterday listening to music using WMP instead of RP. Not one freeze. Then, I switched over to Real Player. Within 5 minutes of using Real Player the system froze. After logging out and back in I put Real Player on again. Within 5 minutes another freeze.

Thanks for the detailed research HPDeskjet! That tends to prove the issue with RealPlayer!

Run the following in an elevated command prompt, then reboot.

    bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes

Be sure to read Rafael's blog post on the issue so you understand what the command does.

    bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes

This is certainly gaining popularity on the net as a cure for one type of Windows 8 freeze problem. It also is a cure for problems found in the Linux community, if you google for "disable dynamic tick", most of the references are linux related. Here's a quote:

Another thing that happened over the last few years was the integration of the dynamic tick code, which disables the clock tick when the system is idle. Clock ticks are not turned back on for interrupt handlers. So any handler which expects jiffies to change while it is running will, sooner or later, go into a rather undignified infinite loop. Users tend to notice that kind of behavior, so most drivers which behave this way have long since been fixed.

The problem is that a freeze, is not a crash, no memory dump gets made, and does not get reported back to the WER center database, so MS is unaware of the scale of the problem.

Everyone who gets a freeze needs to get back to Microsoft with their setup details, and what they were doing when the freeze occurred

Another suggestion having read the posts here, and derived from w7 experiences.
W7 appeared to hang but it all cases it was caused by any application running in the background that was trying
to connect to download an update, retrieve something, just ring home, and failing to get connected to the specific file in question.
This will explain the problems experienced with the various browsers real player etc.
With W8 a metro app may also be doing that in the background.
Can those experiencing freezing disconnect from the internet (switch off wireless or unplug the cable) and report back.

I've been suffering the hangs. Just enabled the hyper-v "fix." I'll let everyone know as it happens several times/day for me.

I have had freezing on a laptop with all metro apps uninstalled - fan going full rate and then no response from screen, mouse or keyboard, but still a lot of processor activity from the heat generated, until powering down. Sadly the Nvidia onboard GPU suffered from solder failure due to the overheat, so the machine died. I'll get a mini gas blowtorch and try to re-fuse it one day, but do not have the time at the moment.

For those User's of ESET SS still AV is not compatible.

After that I have install the AV there is one protection that cannot be activated for I know it will be enable only for Win 7 OS.
This is called H.I.P.S. What is HIPS (Host-based Intrusion Prevention System) in ESET Smart Security/NOD32 Antivirus? - ESET Knowledgebase
    Attachment 7206

ESET SS will always ask to enable the protected but in a long run it causes to freeze.
It has a cross mark once you have install and you will see it in Setup of ESET SS.

I have encounter this kind of problem before that I taught it is from google chrome but it's not.

Now I am using Norton IS and Malwarebytes Anti-malware, everything went well.

Hey there, I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this in, but I'm in need of a little advice. Recently, my laptop's (Some sort of a Compaq) hard drive was dying, I was going to get it replaced but was told there's really no point; There's every chance something else would go soon if...
Just my observation but the Windows7 Forum always had many more posts than the Windows8 forum, until recently. When I would log on the to the forums, I would go to the Win 7 forum and then mark all read. I would go to the Win 8 forum and do the same thing. Used to be a big difference in the...
