XP - One Year To Go

I dont understand why someone is making such a big deal about windows xp support end. They make it sound like with that end windows xp will delete itself from every pc. I will still use windows xp for some of my needs as long as i want. Windows xp is like good old retro car, we can use it for like 50 years or more, if we want :)

An operating system that initially not many liked due to the UI became the operating system that has become a thorn in the maker's side to this VERY day still. It's old, it's gross looking, its password was "password" as its security issues were rampant, and should have died years ago.

Glad it's going to be killed officially.

Yet interestingly enough, when Bill Gates left Microsoft as CEO, he introduced the HP built Windows xp Tablet PC Edition to the world. Move literally a decade later, Microsoft reintroduces the Windows 8 Tablet PC again with THEIR own Surface tablets running an OS of which its UI is a similar talking point to xp's.

But you had the option of using the "classic" mode... They forgot to leave it in this version.

Its not about being a big deal. If you want you can continue to use XP without any real problem the only thing is there will no longer be any support. This just means that XP in a sense becomes "Abandonward." So continue using your copy of XP to your hearts delight. . .:)

Device drivers to install it on new hardware is already an issue so if your hardware last that long go the max.

Hi there
Loads of people / businesses will continue to use XP on totally modern hardware by using Virtual Machines -- runs without any problem whatsoever,

It also makes more sense too -- since XP can only use a max 4GB RAM whereas modern PC's even laptops usually have a minimum of 6GB and usually 8 GB. You can also individually tailor a VM individually for hardware / applications it's required to run.

Cheers
jimbo

Please let get off of religion, this is not a site that goes into these topics. If you want religion then go to Neowin; just not here. This is a tech site only. . .

Hahaha! Ok Lee, I'll do it just for you. But the point is, Religion is always a deeply personal matter with me, I have Faith, it's MY Faith. I do not bring my Faith to Work... Well, no I take that back, I DO take it to work, but I keep it in my heart, not in my mouth.

When I was 16 I was young, Dumb, Full of ***, and then I got Jesused. I had to tell Everyone about it. Well, that time has come and gone, and I have learned to respect people who are Atheists, and also those who follow other religions. I do not want my personal religion to interfere with anybody else's different religion or lack thereof.

Faith is the having of a belief in a supreme higher power, something that is bigger than myself. Religion is the outward practice of it, that's how it is supposed to be. The Outward Practice of Religion does not mean that *I* need to tell all you guys to go get Jesusefied, it means to me, to HELP people. To be there for somebody who has no one.

This is why I repair computers, it is the best way for me to practice it, and I do not have to quote one bible verse or sing any Psalms. I just do my Job, and THAT's my Worthship. I fix puters as if I am fixing them for God, or, to put it on a plane of Reality, as if I were fixing them for MYSELF. In this way, thinking this way, I am able to do the best job of repair - For myself as well as for my customers. I'm not quite there with Windows 8 yet, but you guys have helped me SO much.

So I just wanna extend my gratitude, I know I have been lax at handing out reps, sometimes I just have to run out of here quick. There are a few of you who have given me a bunch of great input, and even if I forget to express that with a rep point, I believe your higher powers will express it, no matter what form that power is.

The First Amendment reads:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Looks pretty clear to me. Would you be ok if organizers of government events pray to Allah, Buddha, or any other make-belief beings? Why should I, a baby eating, cat burning, devil worshipping atheist should endure your preaching of a fictional character? Pray in your own home and leave us sinners and infidels alone.

This is exactly how I feel about it - Faith is personal and needs no outward maneuvering of lips to rack up points with Ghod.

Well, its not like i need super duper hardware for windows xp :) my nvidias card drivers support ended with the newest series, and other hardware drivers are like 3-10 years old, so its no problem.

Oh, Joy! I've had to buy all kinds of IDE-to-Sata interfaces just to install a SATA drive into an IDE machine - Lately I just use those Sata cards, like this one:

SYBA SD-SATA150R Controller Card - Newegg.com

Which work great, but you MUST have a working Floppy Drive installed, for the drivers for the initial XP install. These have saved my life many times. You usually get a good 5 years use out of them.

Alternately, I've bought adapters that plug in to the back of a SATA drive and add an IDE interface. I found one once that worked great, they were less than 20 bucks - But I've never been able to find them again.

And ? Is it so hard to integrate some drivers into windows xp iso file ?

Getting the correct driver is a pain.

Installing the driver using a floppy disc is problematic.
My friend and I spent 3 days trying various drivers, Internet fixes and tutorials, attempting to do this on an Acer laptop and we could not get it to work (using an external USB floppy drive).

Integrating them into the XP ISO is easy enough.
I created a slipstreamed XP disc for my desktop and the driver installed on the first attempt.
