Windows 8.1 Update 1 ISOs Also Coming

Windows 8.1 Update 1 is almost here, but Microsoft has done a terrific job keeping official details secret, even though we still got our hands on leaked copies of the new product.

And still, even though Microsoft has refused to provide too many details on what’s to come in Windows 8.1 Update 1, Twitter user BAV0 has come across some new documentation on the update that seems to suggest that full ISOs are also being prepared.

Thanks, but no thanks, Kerry. I'm not going to try hunting down a safe copy via any torrent houses of ill-repute. Isn't going to happen. I'll make one like Mustang did before I do that.

I'm ok for now. Just not understanding MS when it comes to upgrading lately that's all.

Actually, it looks more like repairing.

I for one am happy with what they did. It doesn't impact me in any negative way and actually makes it easier to use with my track ball and keyboard. They are trying to fix what were perceived as problems, at least that's my understanding based on what I've read.

I'd bet that there are some laptops and machines with OEM windows already being sold with newest updates. They are not going to magically crawl from under the rock on April 8th. Most manufacturers had to start early to install OEM Windows by now and are not going to keep them under the counter 'till that date.

As of now I have only seen 8.1 on new machines (there are some that are running 8.0 but not many)

Looks like they are trying to scrape some more from the bottom of the barrel with their under $250 systems. It was interesting how that was translated into 180 Euros. Whoever did that had no clue - you have to add 11% import duty and 19% sales tax to that (e.g. in Germany). My guess would be it ends up to be 250 Euros.

The author is comparing one base price with another - no tricks. Currently that is 181 euros.
But possibly the article misrepresents the actual statement/rumour.
Microsoft reportedly has plans to slash the licensing price of its Windows 8.1 OS to just $15 for on all devices that retail for less than $250, which could bring them into direct competition with much cheaper Google and Apple devices on the market.

Any electronic device that sells for $250 in the US sells for appr. 250 Euros in Germany, France, Austria, Belgium, etc.. And that is because of the different tax structure. At least that was my experience in the last 50 years of which I lived 20 years in the US and the rest in different European countries.

Btw: an item that is advertised at $250 in the US does not sell for $250 either. Taxes are never included in the advetised prices (which e.g. in Germany would be illegal). Reason is because US sales tax is a local tax that varies from county to county. Here in Florida where I spend my winters it is currently 6.5% and that goes on top of anything you buy - except for many food items.

It is partly due to vat at 20%. The rest is partly due to other very high taxes on petrol, business rates, etc.

It often works out about 60% more than the US price.

Unfortunately, it appears that you will need to running Windows 8.1 to have the Windows 8.1 Update available in Windows Update when released on April 8th.

installed ,not sure it makes much difference to me as I rarely use metro apps ,don't the store app on my taskbar,got a quick shutdown icon on my desktop allready ,+ power option in the right click .

I'm already running the leaked version so I haven't done anything except download the ISO and the stand alone update. Time to make some new bootable thumb drives I think. I may have a go at making a new Windows to go drive tonight, or maybe tomorrow. I'm sipping on a rum and coke so it may be tomorrow.

I had to do the gpedt in this, How to Enable and Use Internet Explorer 11?s Enterprise Mode to get the Enterprise Mode option to show up in the tools menu in IE. I don't know if that is SOP or not as I'm running the leaked update 1. This is a FYI post.
