Which Web Browser Is Best Under Windows 8?

Welcome to our first-ever Web Browser Grand Prix on Windows 8! Will Chrome remain the reigning Windows champion? Is Internet Explorer 10 going to smash the competition like its predecessor? Does Opera 12.10 finally deliver on what version 12 promised?

Wow! That goes a long way! Congrats.

Since I discovered 7-Zip all is solved for archiving. Maybe I'll consider donating...

I have just run speed tests for broadband and browsers due to a failure of my broadband to reach expected speeds with FF as default browser. The results were quite eye opening:

IE10: 105.723mb - 2nd test: 98mb
Firefox: 56mb - 2nd test: 58mb (current default)

HEY!!!! Whats this? Is it firefox thats screwing me up?

Safari 98.026mb - 2nd test: 98mb
Maxthon3 browser: 103mb - 2nd test 98mb
Chrome: 98.7mb 2nd test - 90mb

I have deleted Maxthon3 for other reason, but now on IE10 default! If the other users on my pc are not on FF, that's going too.

I always follow and test all the main browsers but I prefer a small fork of Chrome called CoolNovo, formerly ChromePlus.

It's Chrome with extra functions really useful for me.

For the rest, people who compare Internet Explorer to Chrome or Firefox are by definition using their browsers on a very basic mode and are probably not very advanced or heavy users.

What makes Chrome the number one is the extensions, just like Firefox before. I couldn't even think of returning to the old days of a browser without extensions, such as IE.

I use firefox because it has an extension that allows you to download and save youtube videos. It creates a download button below the video where you can download videos in varies formats including mp4 1080p hd. Crome used to have this extension but for unknown reasons they pulled the extension which was a shame because I liked using crome.

I saw you talk about coolnovo Kmint, does it use cromes extension store ?

Yes, CoolNovo is just Chrome and uses Chrome's extensions.

I have been using it since version 1 years ago and whenever I have tried other browsers I miss the unique extra features of CoolNovo that can't be got even through extensions.

I think that is quite insulting really. I use browsers that 'do the job for me' not because I am a nerd user or anything else. I have 19-20 web sites and used to build my own pc's. And also, remember, that nobody knows the answer to anything until they are told it.

And, as a user of both IE and Firefox, from way back when it was Netscape Navigator, I thought so, too.

Also, I wonder which IE he's used, as I have several extensions and add-ins on my IE10.

There are some quite patronising posters here, but I usually choose not to engage... :zip:

    Borderline pathetic.
You guys should check out Pale Moon/64 (Windows optimized version of Firefox).. It ran great on Win7, apart from the fact, that the initial load of the browser was a bit slow. But on Win8 it even loads fast and it is blazing fast and uses less ram than on 7 (I know because on one of the million and one extensions), even though I restored my old profile with 29 cookie blocking, https finding extensions.

I haven't tried Opera64 yet, but I will check that out. IE10 is fine, but I guess once you get used to the massive amount of extensions, it is hard to settle for less.. I ditched Chrome a while ago. It doesn't feel as fast, as it used to do, but more importantly I just felt like the entire browser was one giant key logger, and frankly I'm not comfortable with Google Brother watching my every move.. Some times I use Chromium for development though..
