This worked great for me: How to: Remove watermark (build 8102) - xda-developers

Left with hash no.
I can live with the hash number for now. It's certainly nicer than that huge watermark. :)

I dont know exactly why but I always liked that watermark since build 7850 :)

Heh. Well I wouldn't mind having the "Windows Developer Preview: Evaluation Copy. Build 8102."
But I feel like I don't need all that other stuff.

Thanks for that. You've checked that it doesn't have adverse effects on, for instance, the expiry date of the OS? I remember some previous ones that did that, or even in one case, caused a 'This is an Illegal Copy of Windows' type popups.

No it definitely does not change the expiration date.

Many people have already tried this and no complaints as yet. This is supposed to be the best one to date and works fine for me.

Confirmed working. Winver shows the same 1/15/2013 expiration date and no adverse affects noticed yet.

Seems like a good one.

Here is a new water mark remover that works perfectly and removes all traces of the water mark in Windows 8 CP.
Doesn't work for me. Windows 8 x64 CP (German)

Doesn't work for me. Cannot work for me: Windows 8 x64 CP (German)

See read me file:
5. Copy and replace the <shell32.dll.mui> from the Edited Files to C:\Windows\System32\en-US
In German it should be C:\Windows\System32\de-DE - but different files.

But this works perfect:
  • Can remove watermark
  • Can change watermark
  • Can rebuild watermark

Only thing I'd wish for is some kind of "silent" (unattended) mode. You know, like "My_WCP_Watermark_Editor.exe /s" or something similar.

From what I have read (I didn't have problems) with the link I gave, it is the opposite case. You follow the instructions, change the them, and then change back to your original theme and its gone.

Works fine for me after reboot which is automatic after running the zip file.

I added the zip file to my original post to make it easier to install. No need to mess with theme's in my version, it works with a single click IMO.

The German cp seems to have it's problem due to different language used for files and I'm pretty sure were still speaking English in this forum. :)
