By installing Windows 8.1, the Recovery Partition was made unusable.
Have you seen in one of my posts the extra partition created without my knowledge?
Once I get the new W8 Pro installed, do you think I can delete this partition?

My Computer

Yes, don't know where that partition came from - that would probably screw up the link to the recovery image.. Rufus should be fine to create usb - if you have that efi thing, it needs to be formatted FAT32. I think Rufus does that.

The bootable usb is recognised in the bios, set as 1st boot option, security disabled, though I am not able to make it boot.
Found a dvd-rw and having another try with bootable dvd, creating with gburner.

Windows 8.1 update New Partition.
Good to see I got the same.
So If I would like to restore from original Windows 8 recovery partition, how could I do that?
Can I delete this extra partition while trying to install Windows 8 Pro as outlined by SIW2?

See if the latest dvd works for you.

Re the recovery image, it won't work if you move things around , seems to be looking for the offset:

Code:
  <PBRImageLocation path="\reimage" id="1160165202" offset="106673733632" guid="{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}" index="1"/>

You can reset it .

REAGENTC.EXE /setosimage /path driveletter:\Foldercontaining-install.wim /index 1

I made a folder on the drive called reimage . I have c:\reimage . I put install.wim inside that.

Set it as the recovery image like this:

REAGENTC.EXE /setosimage /path c:\reimage /index 1

Works fine, just did a refresh to check.

You might be able to get it to install Pro as above. If you do as above, then try running reset from within win8.0 /index 1 might force the reset to use Pro.

Guys
You done it!!!!!!!:D
See the OS version and the partitions.
The unallocated partition is the 8.1 created partition which I deleted. The partitions on the left of the OS are newly created by installing the Pro version.
So, a million thanks.:D

Yes I did it exactly as you suggested and with the USB.
And it is activated.
You have done a brilliant job.:thumb:
I might tidy up the unallocated partition at some stage and could also check what the recovery option is as there seems to be two of them now.
In the meantime I'm over the moon with where things are now and can install the necessary programs.

My Computer

Thanks for letting us know. Glad it worked out for you.:D
