does it work fine with the oem windows 8 key? i only have the oem. not the full product key

Good stuff. Did 8.1 read and use your embedded key during the install? Fully activated?

no.. i used the update key because i have read from other sites that embed key will not be accepted. but when installation is done. i activate it through the internet. and uerika!! Windows 8.1 activated. Thanks for the help.

win 8.1 is only a prieview/beta version and will have to be replaced when the full version comes out on oct 17/2013

What "update key" as in where did you obtain that? If its been widely used and publicized you can count on Microsoft blacklisting it at some point.

all the others would not even hep solve problems when it was discovered that the user was using a non legit copy of windows

Neither am I, but English is not his first language, so it probably means the default key to install ( as theog posted ), and it activated online using oem key in the firmware.

If you actually activate with your legitimate key I wouldn't exactly call it boot legged, but I do get your point. It was mentioned not to post download links or product keys. Me I'm content to wait for it to show up on TechNet. Not everybody is so lucky though and some just can't wait.
