having a bios password doesnot show more options (in my case) nothing has changed. i downloaded the iso here Windows 8 (x64) - DVD (English) (download torrent) - TPB

en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440 is what I downloaded from TechNet and is what is listed in your torrent download. Assuming it hasn't been altered it should work. I used the Windows 7 DVD download tool to put it on a USB thumb drive and did my install from that. Its a lot faster than doing it from a DVD.

Yeah exactly what i am doing, but my bios settings hinders me from booting up with the use of the USB thumb drive. and with the current bios settings i am not sure if the serial key of the oem is still there and would be used if i install the windows 8. i'will try using the DVD process on installation and am hoping that it will work.

If Windows 8 was preinstalled at the factory the laptop will have an embedded key. Official unmodified install media will read that key and install the matching version. If it came with 8 core, 8 core will be installed and you won't be prompted to enter a product code. Windows will then activate online automatically the first chance it gets. I've done it on my laptop using my TechNet ISO.

If you use one of those modified "all in one" ISO's all bets are off. It may ask you for a code, I don't know, I've never used one. You won't find your code on a COA sticker either. There isn't one if the PC has an embedded code. My laptop has an ASUS Windows 8 sticker on it but there is no product code listed, anywhere.

Exactly how my new Acer works also. You have to get the UEFI/BIOS set back to UEFI boot and not legacy before the embedded key will work and Win 8 will re-install.

I don't think the BIOS settings will have any effect on whether the key is read or not. They may prevent you from installing correctly though. Windows 8 can be installed without UEFI. You'll want to use it if available but its not mandatory. I'd look for a "reset to fail safe defaults" option in the BIOS. If that doesn't work look for a "set to optimized defaults" option.

I guess the point I was trying to make is for the embedded key to work and the copy once installed to show as activated and legal it has to be done from the UEFI side.

i've done "set to optimized defaults" for the bios but nothing has changed. still can't add a boot device of a usb thumb drive. can't even have the option to choose the boot device. the boot device that is read is the main hdd and the dvd rom.

I don't think that is true. The embedded key is hard coded into the motherboard, its not in the UEFI portion, one has nothing to do with the other. That's my understanding anyway. Activation isn't dependent on UEFI either.

Great, now i am able to boot using the USB thumb drive. Wll, alphanumeric is right, it does not need the uefi of the bios to be able to give the serial key. But now, the installation is telling me that the serial key does not match the installation software.

I used the installation software before, but i used the option "repair computer". Now can someone help me on how can i install the windows 8 on my unit.

The laptop is currently running the windows 8 pro with media somthing... which is unlicensed.

According to my ASUS laptops owners manual in the BIOS in the "Boot" section: there is supposed to be a "UEFI Boot" option with enabled or disabled as choices. I don't actually see it though if I enter the BIOS? All I see is Fast Boot (enabled) and Enable CSM (disabled) options. There is a Secure Boot Control option in the Security section shown as enabled. The Restore Defaults option is in the Save & Exit section. On the right it lists F9: as optimized defaults. I guess you can't turn EUFI off on my laptop?

Are you trying to do a clean install or repair?

My laptop currently has Windows 8 Pro with Media Center. On a clean install I go custom install and delete the system reserved and other windows partitions. Then I let Windows 8 create new ones. 8 core gets installed because that's what my embedded key is for. After that I go to add features and upgrade to 8 Pro with my TechNet key, then do it again and enter my Media center key.

I would like to clean install it, because the current OS is Windows 8 pro and unlicensed. There is no other option than "Install". When i clicked the "Install" button it checks the serial key and messaged me "the key does not match ... blah blah blah . Please enter a new key."

Yes it is set by default but the one who formatted the laptop changed it to legacy and secure boot is dissabled. I don't know how to change this since the settings under "advance startup" >> trouleshoot >> uefi firmware settings is now hidden and i can't find it anywhere. please see the attached photo on my main post.
