Solved Samsung 840 Evo 500GB SSD for Toshiba MQ01ABD100 1TB HDD?

Hi there

A doubt: is there any problem if i do the migration today & do the physical installation tomorrow or day after,
I did migrate the hard drive to SSD now , and when i asked service center technicians if i could come for replacement, they told to come another day

Only issue with that would be that, if you use the computer after cloning the drive, any changes you make won't be included on the clone. Not really a big deal, just save any work you do to a thumb drive or something like that at the end of the day.

Installed SSD ...yippeeee.. a very thank you to all here helped me :thumb:
Wow, its lightning fast than my HDD , This is my first SSD

After installation I did these -

From Magician software - advanced optimization(user defined):
I had disabled hibernate, manually configured Virtual memory (page file size set: 400MB to 2048MB), disabled Prefetch & SuperFetch (does that cause any performance effect? Note:-have 8Gigs RAM) , Done a performance optimisation, system restore OFF,

Enabled RAPID mode, Restarted system
One thing I noted is HP 3D driveguard is automatically disabled - I don't know why?




Also, when I went to Windows Disk defrag to turn it off - I could see its marked - Needs optimization for drives, should I click optimize ?




Last thing I was curious about was, the Authenticate button from Magician is always showing "Failed to authenticate", any ideas of what to do for it?




Any changes or anything else to do ?

I have SSD's in 3 of my 4 PC's. I disable hibernation from the command prompt. That gets ride of the hiberfile.sys file. I don't use sleep or hibernation anyway. I don't use fast startup either. I don't see the point when using an SSD. I turn indexing off too. I hardly ever use the search function.

Can I disable from startup & uninstall Magician software after optimisation, trim & other desired tweaks?
Will uninstalling it change everything back to scratch?

I cant see Samsung magician s/w in startup apps, but its loading everytime,
Is this the Magician itself or something related to RAPID mode:

After reading it, I directly went and disabled it

Here are synthetic benchmarks that I ran:

Samsung Magician performance benchmark:
light blue - with RAPID
navy blue - without RAPID




CrystalDiskMark -

Its showing a dramatic difference in sequential & 4K read/write

I don't know whats happening here, but I'll go with the article..

Can I uninstall the Magician software now completely?

Uninstalled,

3D Driveguard is still greyed out in tray No unknown devices/exclamations in device manager ,
uninstalled it & reinstalled latest one from hp site, but still the same - I assume that Accelerometer have no function in SSD - is that the reason for it being greyed out, just a doubt?

I found another great article who confirms:
Windows optimize tool defrags SSD instead of trim function as a part of Automatic maintenance, but will not defrag if done manually from optimize tool.

Do read this article with his suggestions & workaround - I just applied his fix on mine, Hope it goes well,

You don't need 3D Driveguard for an SSD. It would sense a drop and park the heads on the drive to prevent damage to the hard drive platters and heads. No moving parts in an SSD so it won't do anything. That's likely why its greyed out. That's why I like clean installs. You pick what does and doesn't get installed.

Ok, so I'll have to live with it

My WinSAT experience index DiskScore is 5.9:


Previously when HDD was there, it was 5.7, will it not change when you put SSD?

I ran the Winaero WEI Tool, option 3 in this tutorial, http://www.eightforums.com/tutorial...dex-update-refresh-wei-score-windows-8-a.html and it shows 7.3 for primary hard drive.

Graphics is the bottleneck - got 5.3 score by using this tool & winsat

Why WinSAT didn't show actual score for diskdrive, any reason?

Graphics were my bottle neck too, I scored a scored 5.6. NVidia GT 640. I'm not why WinSAT was different for you, maybe the command you ran. It's also listed in the link I gave you.
